Do any of you have recommendations for portland oregon area paint shops?

Basically need a soda blast to kill the surface rust etc plus a good quality paint job.

Thanks

Hello,

Use Tony at Portland media blasters as he uses walnut and an honest guy.

See my 1981 restoration thread, if you like what you see then call or stop by Sam's auto body on 50th just one block North of Powell. talk to Raymond and Hue. these are great guys and have mad skills!

Very cool Shane,

Out of curiosity, do you remember the rough cost of walnut blasting, and the paint job?

Sam's auto body is not far from my house which is a plus :)

I deliver each part stripped of all seam sealer and the tub on a rolling chassis cart. When I say each part, its all the painted components. All zinc stuff I have them glass beaded. The larger stuff I have baked in oven and hit with glass or sand.

I can tell you that I have $2,200 in prep for all my parts. But Tony does not bake or do glass. So $800-1400 depending on what you bring him.

NEVER USE SAND!

Thanks Shane,

You did all the prep yourself?

Nice looking Fj by the way, it is a beauty.
I will hit up Tony when the shippers get my fj to portland.

Thanks again for your help man.

If not the time it take a gun to strip is is 10x longer. I used several picks and scrapers to get it all out. Then take a small bug sprayer and put a liter of rust mort or similar rust converter. Pump it up and spray in every nook and cranny. and then use air with 3' long copper line to blow it all in deep. Heat it up ( I used paint booth and then blow in epoxy primer the same way into everyplace you can, you cant get enough on the metal. Pour it into the rear doors, front doors, windshield frame and hood support. Then do all your body work.
