I am going through the engine on my 78 FJ40 and cleaning and replacing the gaskets etc. I want to repaint the block and was wondering if por15 will stand up to the heat generated. I have a quart of it to use but hate to do it, after all the work I have put into it, if it will peel off. Has anyone else used it on engine parts with success? Otherwise I suppose I can shell out more $$$$ for the High heat version,...But if the reg stuff will work I'd just use it.

The POR folks have some high temp stuff you can use. I would not use POR15. I doubt it would stand up to it.

You'd likely set the POR15 on fire once the engine got warm. I know that the Zero Rust will burn if you weld nearby. Use an engine enamel.

I had the same question so I called and according to their tech rep, Christopher Albright, POR15 has a temp rating of around 600 degrees F. I don't why they don't put this info on the can...

Apply engine cleaner onto block and hose off (covering all electronic/fuel devices).

Utilizing a wire brush, remove any loose paint, left over gunk, etc...

Mask anything you don't want to paint, not necessary if handy w/brush.

Spray favorite engine enamel into plastic container, just enough to see a decent puddle at bottom of container.

Utilizing a disposable brush, apply one coat of paint onto engine block.

Repeat last step as needed (multiple coats recommended).

Try it, you'll like it,
manny
