Would anyone reccommend coating a currently rust free frame with POR-15 as a preventative measure?

Thanks

Luke

Yes, do it. But I would reccomend using Rust Bullet over POR-15, less things need to be done to RB prior to use. I used RB to take care of rust on my 62 and then put a bedliner over it. If $$$ allows, IMO I would Rust Bullet your frame, then powder coat it. Then you'd be golden

you cannot powder coat over rust bullet. or any paint that is.

That's expensive paint to use on a rust free frame. Mybe use their frame paint instead. I'm a fan of POR-15 but why use a "paint over rust" when there's no rust. ;)

Cus if the rust gets outta hand then your f:censor:d ;)

This is correct. You can apply a top coat to RB, but powdercoating requires a bare metal surface to adhere to. You cannot powdercoat on top of any paint.

Tell me about it. If it gets out of hand then you've gotta go at your frame with a torch to get the rot out,

The site says you can.
Rust Bullet ? Rust Corrosion Prevention Converter And Repair Paint Better Than POR 15 about halfway down the page it talks about topcoating
And my bedliner worked just fine over the RB.

-Carl

powder coating and top coating are very different things. Top coating is essentially another layer of some paint slapped on.
During Powder coating paint particles are magnetically adhered to bare metal, and then melted on, polymerized and hardened by heat.

cheers,
Jan

If you powder coat, you need to do it to sandblasted metal. No POR-15 or Rust Bullet involved. If you use paint, my vote is for Rust Bullet...a lot less work and seems to actually stay on better. Rust Bullet can be covered with most any paint if you don't want silver.

RB also has that new Black Shell stuff.

As I have no garage and no money, what I had pictured was me crawling under my truck while parallel parked and throwing POR 15 on the frame. Halfassed, yes, but if it keeps the salt off my nice clean frame this winter I'll do it unless there's extensive prep work involved. Is there?
Maybe I should open a body shop.

POR-15 is not the product for you. I'll attach their directions "for people that don't read directions" and you should see why.

Agreed. POR-15 is difficult to prep for. Then, once it's dried, you can't just paint over it. You have to use their special primer and then paint it. It might last forever, but it will take you forever to do it the first time.

Great info. Thanks gentlemen
