Since for the moment I am stuck in the hellhole known as Washington, DC, you would think that there is nowhere to go off pavement around here. Legally, you are probably right, but I have been on some construction sites that offer mud, water, jumps, rocks, and hill climbing that although they were not intentionally designed for off-road vehicles, they sure are fun. The only downside is they are usually pretty small (less than 20 acres). With all the rain we have been having in the area, there is plenty of mud to be found. If anyone lives in the DC area, email me here and I will be happy to hook up with you for some afternoon mudsliding!

I'd like to know some fun areas too! You're always welcome to join me on the "Olney Trails" anytime after my wife gets back from OBX on July 8th (she's taking the FJC). The trails aren't terribly challenging but a lot of fun. Just zing me an email so we can work out dates.

Hmm.... Being an Aspen Hillite, I'm curious just where these Olney Trails are.

Whatever you do, don't get caught at the construction sites - hefty fines are sure to follow.

They are very old trails bordered by 108, Muncaster Road, and Bowie Mill Road. They kinda, sorta follow the Pepco power lines. Lots of dirt trails and grassy fields over hills. You'll see a few abandoned 19th century houses along the way. Not a lot of folks know about them. You can access them from Wickham Road at two places. They're about to develop the area even further so don't wait too long. I live right next to them and haven't seen any law enforcement vehicles yet!

Law Enforcement and Construction

While it's true that Tresspassing can bring a hefty fine, construction sites on public land are another story. With the construction of the dreaded ICC underway, there are plenty of areas to go. One place that I will give away is in Rockville, off Executive Blvd, just south of Montrose/Randolph next to the post office distribution center. Just make sure you go after the workers are done for the day, or you might get squished by an earth mover. Now those are some tires!
