They do fit using only the stuff in the box, but don't pretend you are going to use stock grills. I decided trying to find a spot to flush mount the tweeter was more hassle than it is worth (I was going to go for the front pillars but there is too much electrical run up them to drill in there), so I surface mounted them with enough room to use the door handle but not so far forward that they block the window switches. I really like the spot they are in more than I thought I would.

The door panel just barely isn't flush. It is not worth trying to make it flush though, IMHO, because you cannot visually tell it is not, and you can easily seal the small gap.

The sound is significantly better and I'm only powering it with my Eclipse AVN5510 at this point. Crossover is velcroed to the outer door skin almost at the bottom; it was one of the few places it would fit and clear the window.

I'm not too into the bling grill and may try to modify it without the spokes (I'm not worried about damaging the woofer... honestly how often do you whack it) or find a more understated one.

It looks fine the way it is. don't waste your time messing with the grill. I am gonna switch out my 6.5" alpines in my front doors for some components, I was thinking about mounting the tweeters in the stock location in the dash. Did you consider the dash?

I don't know if LX450s are the same as LCs but the tweeters are actually more like sub-tweeters and they are mounted below the steering column by the fuse box, firing down. Since tweeters are directional I thought that was a pretty poor choice on Toyota's part. I think if you like a more direct (read: bright) sound, surface mount on the front pillars would be a good choice, but I like them to be a bit more laid back, and this configuration keeps the 15khz and up harshness out of my left ear, which is nice.

That's where they mount on the LC also. I was gonna fab a mount to angle the tweeters up yet hide them behind the factory frills. Hmmm.

I have my infinity 6.5 Perfect component tweeter on the upper portion of the A pillar. IMHO that is where they belong. Sounds great.

Installation of the 6.5 woofer in the door was a bear. they gave a basket like a mini subwoofer seriously huge

I almost pulled the trigger on that exact setup but was unsure about the placement of the tweeters so I got some DB650s instead (I was worried about the front pillar too).

After seeing what you did I wish I had waited. Very nice.

Can you tell us more about the fit of the door panel with your component speakers? ---> "...isn't barley flush?"
