I picked up a case of Fluid Film last week to oil the frame. Stuck my finger in the inspection holes on the frame, and there's an inch of mud and gravel all the way down the thing, both sides.

Tomorrow, I'm going to lift the front end with a loader and put the hose to it, and get all that crap out of there, then let it dry, then oil it up, inside and out.

Question is, it seems like my 4Runner's got some rubber plugs for those frame holes (but I haven't looked in a while, and it's way down in the shop), so the frame doesn't fill back up. Can I get them for my 60 (and should they be on there already)?

Thanks.

Thanks you all. I might put some in there just to keep from having to clean it out so much. The strip mine mud around here gets in places you wouldn't believe.

The frame looks good from the outside, I just don't want the cancer sneaking up on me from the inside.

If you plug it, moisture/water will stay inside instead of dring out as you drive...No? Leading to rust.
Someone correct me if I am wrong please.

Damned if you do and don't. Either way you are getting moisture in your rail. Only way you wouldn't is if it was boxed completly. Then I would have to turn it into a compressor reservoir.

Yeah I think so too.

vehicles that sit get moisture in em' too...I always thought that the holes were meant to give ventilation, (probably other purposes too), but vehicles that are driven regularly, will typically have less frame rot.

This is assuming they are not driven in salty road conditions and or by the oceans etc. etc.

I thought there were a few rubber plugs on a 60/2 frame......now I am gonna have to look

I remember pulling them out to clean my frame. but it might have been a BJ70.

The trouble with the 60 is that its open in so many places that plugs arent really going to stop too much. I think regular washing and oiling is the best you can do.

yep, you would have to put a heall of a lot of sealant everywhere. The frame is not fully boxed. I would think you would have to start off with a complete bare frame to actualyl seal it up.

Personaly I would just oil it up and let it be. The crud you currently have took what, 20ish years to accumulate?

Good point. Spray out and oil once a year from here on out. And maybe I'll get 20 more.

Now a compressor reservoir, that's a good idea. Wonder if that would help it float.;)
