The Amazon replacement part worked for me.
This was before trimming, OEM on the left, Amazon on the right:
I had to trim down the horizontal surface above the barbs to make room for the thicker connecting rod than intended, but it seems like there's still more material than the OEM has. The Amazon clip also has more space between the barb and surface, but I don't feel the extra slop when I use the latch.
it's not a perfect solution, but it's 10 pieces for $8 so I'll call it a win. No more climbing through the back door after 20 mile hikes...
