Hi guys,

I believe this is my first post here, so hello from Queensland, Australia! :)

Earlier this year I purchased a 1992 FJ80 GXL in okay shape. Mechanically it's been pretty neglected but I'm slowly trying to nurse her back to health.

You guys (North Americans) seem to be the authority on these cruisers so I've come here in need of assistance. I've checked FSM and Gregory's manual for diagrams on this to no avail... they don't show the additional vacuum line I have.

My VCV has a thicker (vacuum?) line to the charcoal canister (very short) and another one the same size to somewhere else. Then there's a thinner one which goes to the intake manifold and another thin one which goes to the top of the air cleaner box (where there is three vacuum lines coming out).

My problem is there's a third thin vacuum line coming off my VCV and I can't see where it goes. I can't see where it should plug up to, I can't see it in the diagrams and I haven't been able to find any solutions in my web searching.

I've attached some images showing the two black hoses coming up from the VCV and the one line missing a hose. I've also included a zoomed picture to show what I mean.

Thank you very much for your time!

The VCV I think you're referring to is shown in this diagram as 23275. It is shown on top of the air cleaner for illustration. There should also be a vacuum piping diagram under the bonnet.

On the side with two nipples, the top (smaller) hose ultimately goes to the lower nipple on the BVSV on the thermostat housing (via the hard line vacuum manifold under the intake plenum). The bottom (larger) hose goes to the charcoal canister. On the side with one nipple (small hose) it goes to the air filter housing. The very bottom nipple (large hose) goes to the intake manifold (ultimately to the front side of the manifold just above the fuel pressure regulator via the hard line vacuum manifold under the plenum). Hopefully that makes sense. If not, let me know and I can draw a diagram.

Hi Guys,

Thank you very much for the replies. My vacuum piping diagram under the bonnet is no longer readable. I have had a further look this morning at the vacuum situation with better light.

So it appears there is a bracket to which the charcoal cannister and VCV attach to. It has two hard lines on it which I've colour coded purple and yellow). So the VCV itself appears to have three lines. On mine I have one very short thicker line going to the charcoal canister (I have colour coded this red). Then there is another thicker one which connects up under the intake manifold (I have colour coded this green, dotted where not visible). Then there is a thinner one which also connects under the intake manifold (Which I've colour coded blue).

For the vacuum lines under the air intake manifold I've made a legend showing where the green and blue colour coded lines are connecting).

This is where it gets slightly more confusing...

In trying to figure out where the hard lines on the bracket go (which there is 2 of) ... The one which is connected visibly from the top goes (yellow) to the top of the air cleaner box. The other one (purple) is the mysteriously disconnected line.

I climbed underneath the vehicle to figure out where these go to...

The vacuum line connected to the air cleaner box is disconnected at the underside of the hardline (yellow). The other hardline with no vacuum connected to it's top (purple) is connected on the other end, underneath... it connects to a 4th vacuum line on the underside of the VCV!

I've included some pictures for you to see.

Thanks a lot everyone!

PS. Photo #2 is the one taken from underneath the vehicle. That yellow coded line which is disconnected has a right angle on it. Not sure if that was clear. Sorry for the power steering fluid everywhere, my reservoir has a leak and even ebay wants $200 for replacements.

Thanks :)

After looking at jonheld's diagram for a bit longer after being underneath my vehicle (and turning my head to match the strange orientation of the diagram) I'm getting the idea that the yellow vacuum hose should be connected to the mysterious purple hardline which has nothing connected.

If that's correct though... what connects to both ends of the hardline where the yellow hose is currently plugged in?

Thanks guys

Hey thanks for the diagrams. I feel like I might have the vacuum lines that are connected correct. I just have no idea about the remaining hard vacuum line Which now has nothing on either end?
