Toyota Landcruiser 80 1996

Dear TLC Enthusiasts, Above is a link to a vehicle I am considering purchasing for use in a right hand drive, wet, tropical, hot, rugged, jungle climate.

I note the US book value is considerably below what they are asking, but it has some significant aftermarket mods. Could,it be worth it, or am I looking to spend way too much? I would value your opinion, warnings, and advice to me about this vehicle. I own a 2004 Toyota 4Runner, and this would be a second vehicle. What should I look out for in your experience and opinion before and after the sale?

Thank you for your time and support.

All the Best,
Mitch

Should look for the same areas of concern as mentioned many times here. Covered in faq's and on slee's newbie guide to 80s.

Roof rack rust
Head gasket service record
Rear sliding Windows leak
Condition of inner axle seals
When were wheel bearings last replaced
Chassis was painted but what was underneath?

Flex has a mediocre reputation and the one comment on that site matches it. Not sure if that comment is for the 80 or the sprinter in the comment title. Odd page layout.

Are there any service records ?
Lacking simple details like mileage

I don't think the accessories affect the price as much as the market it is in. These vehicles (and many) hold their value in other areas of the world much more so than throw away USA. If you want to see if it's a fair price you need to compare to others in that market cause all the North American mkt guys are gonna call that too $$$$ but my cousin just left Ethiopia and sold his 95 fzj for 22k cause vehicles don't depreciate there as much.

For your described use id make sure there were no water leaks and ac is working!

All another standard used car buying rules should apply

- miles
- clutch condition
- any records or major repairs
- why sold
- what's it need next for maint
