So after bending the hell out of my rear quarter last year at CMCC, I want to add some protection in order to prevent it from happening again. The first thing I thought of was ActionJackson's diamond plate quarters that he fabbed up. They look pretty good and apparently function really well. I would use some LED trailer lights to replace the stock lights and I would also chop my quarters to run a tube underneath the quarter to protect from underneath.

It seems that one could take some measurements and bend up a template that would work pretty easily. The question is how to attach it. Would it be better / stronger to weld a plate like this onto the quarter or would it be better to bolt it on?

Anyone done this on a 60 before?

Just my opinion, but I think it looks better with dents than it would with diamond plate as in that first picture. If you are going to put some plate on there, I wouldn't think it would make much difference if you bolt it on, or weld it on. From the looks of the truck, you probably won't ever take it off again anyway...

From the looks of the truck..... You saying that it's rusty?:hillbilly:

Here's another pic of one. I'm hearing that 1/8" diamond plate tread is the ticket.

Too bad you are so far away... I'd make ya a smokin deal on my old SROR/Brokenparts hybrid rear bumper I have.

It won't work with how I cut up my rear panels anymore...

oops... you werent talking about a bumper....:)

I'm planning on putting a couple holes in the panels and bending some tube to run across that area and tie into interior section of the cage (not built yet).

Mad paint skillz:

Well I was thinking a combination of both. A bumper just like that with plate going from the lowest quarter body line up to the bottom of the window. The plate would protect up high while the bumper would protect the lower portion. Basically from where the black stops on your quarter to just below the window.

Want to see how much shipping would be? I was going to have Jim fab up a bumper exactly like that one and have him ship it to me.:hhmm:

How much of a body lift do you have on there?

I've seen tube like that and I'm not a big fan. No offense or anything, just doesn't do it in terms of looks for me.

none taken
I would weld the plate steel on, it would be more work but look better

I'm not a fan of diamond plate and it adds so much more weight. The tubing, if done right is easier to replace and wont hold moisture underneath. I like the tube on the blue 60 in the photo. I also would like to see a"skin" for the "80's like the broncos have.:p

I was thinking about that too and figured thats the reason why the one's I've seen have been bolt on, so moisture could get out from underneath. I was thinking that maybe you could paint the quarter with rust bullet and then weld it on. Maybe I could come up with a really close bolt on solution that would look good:hhmm:

I'd say you need some sort of flotation before adding more weight...
By the way nice pictures in the latest Toyota Trails :)
But I think the diamond plate looks better.

thanks for the pictures Sheri

I think "rust bullet" or "por-15" under the panel would do just fine. I like the look of the red 80 in the previous post. It's like what I was trying to describe w/ the old Bronco panels. They fit nice and snug and look good also.;)

Got any pictures of these bronco panels?

David is that you? Lol, what I need is less stupidity when it comes to water.

This summer I think I'm going to set up some diamond plate after a massive amount of body repairs. They would look great on the top two thirds of the quarter and it would be pretty easy to do too. Gotta find a pipe with a si
similar bendto the upper quarter.

DUDE!
SNAG that bumper!
Its BAD ASS!

Really nothing to add to the diamond plate though part of the discussion though....
To make it look right, Id say that youd almost have to take the time, cut the existing panel and use the diamond plate as a graft of sorts.
That'd be a TOUGH NUT though!
If you didnt wanna go THAT far, then Id say rivets. Its semi permanent, and you could take em off if you need later. I personally wouldnt weld those on.

Nice to see the rig getting used my man!

I was also thinking of removing the panel and just replacing the quarter with diamond plate, but that would be a ton more work.

Rivets....now THAT is an idea:idea:
