Has anyone plastidipped the chrome window and door molding trim on their GX460? If so, how did it turn out and what did you do in order to prep it? Lastly, how is it holding up?

I tried the Rustoleum Vinyl Wrap spray on the trim and it came off very easy. In fact too easy that I took it off all together except for the dppr handles. It seemed to adhere there a little better. For prep I washed the entire truck first and then went back over the trim with an alcohol spray to get off any grease or wax. This product took several coats to evem resemble the color black. Its a decent product but not for this application.

I’m gonna go ahead and pull up a seat to observe the replies. I really want to just have it all painted, but wouldn’t mind trying this as an option first.

I CAN tell you don’t bother with rubberized undercoating spray. ... I just hope when it cures it gets harder and more durable because it’s pretty malleable after several coats. I made the cardinal sin by touching it too early and F’ing it up. Trying to correct it. Even plastidip is easier and more durable so far. I almost just used plastidip since it held up very well on all my other vehicles. Was just looking to add more durability and texture.

Almost a year on my Hyperdip and no issues with weekly washes through the drive-through car wash. I still need to do the side trim.

You'd think the auto mfg’s would stop putting this cheap fake plastic chrome s*** on vehicles since a large portion of people hate it. We do not have a choice when we buy so we all are stuck with it.

It's not a terrible match especially when you consider how far apart the wheels are from the trim. I'm just not sure I feel like dealing with taping everything off and/or attempting to remove and reinstall it all, of which I am not even sure some of it can be.

Are your rims gray or like a titanium (or other metal) tint? Same question for the Plasti Dip, is it just a gray or is it supposed to resemble some metal type finish?

Method calls the wheel color Titanium and the Plastidip is Gunmetal Gray.

I used a Duplicolor vinyl wrap spray for the window trim, door trim, grille, Lexus Logos and rear door trim. I prepared the surfaces by cleaning them with alcohol and also on some surfaces I used some Duplicolor Surface Preparation Wipes. I have a carwash subscription so my rig is washed pretty often and this place has some very powerful jets that hit the windows and doors pretty hard.

When painting, I used lots of light coats. I masked the hell out of everything, though, since this is removable wrap, overspray is supposed to be easy to remove.

The spray-wrap on the door trim immediately got disturbed by the high pressure spray. I think it is just in the line of fire from those nozzles and at the right angle that the water got under it in a couple of places. So far after a month or two, the other places have held up ok.

I decided to replace the areas where the wrap started to come off with "PlastiDip". Same thing after the car wash.

So I replaced those damaged areas this time with "Plastic Trim Paint". Might have been Rustoleum. It is holding up well. As the "wrap" spray degrades or peels off in other places, I will replace it with real permanent "Plastic Trim" paint. But I will say that the window trim that I used the DIp Wrap Spray has held up well so far. My problems arose from that carwash's strong spray on some surfaces.

Hope this helps. Also, get out of the wind when doing this. If you do not have a garage, go to a parking garage or commuter garage where noone goes on the weekend ... get out of the wind. Make a half a day of it.
