Damn, those MTZ's have the exact same outer lugs as the trxus...I can't even tell them apart.

As deep of an analysis as photos allow, I think the MTZ has deeper side lugs that are square-er to the tread (if that makes sense). I think there are enough 45 degree groves that I don't think the lateral traction will be a problem. Guess I'll find out. :)

I'll probably get banished for admitting to reading it, but JP Magazine had a possitive review of them.

that makes a little more sense...I'd guess the same size as an MT/R... decisions decisions...

do you have them yet? pics of them on your 80?

They arrive Friday - If I can get them mounted Friday, I'll post pictures, and will measure the actual loaded height.

Do you think the MTZ's will be as strong as the TRXXUS? ply count and such? hmmm...I might be down for a set of these if the 315's are close to a 35"

EDIT::::

according to their chart, it's only 33.5" tall...which sucks...

It's a 9 ply tire vs. 10. Both are 6 ply tread, trxus sidewalls are 4, MTZ 3.

I dunno it makes much difference. The circumstance that blows one is pretty likely to blow the other, and the outer tire design (lugs & side biters) are just about identical. Doesn't Cooper make the Mickey's? You may well get a more uniform tire than trxus.

Go for it and let us know how it turns out.

Ya, was just looking on their site

"Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, owned by the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company of Findlay, Ohio"

It seems to be between the Trxxus and the Irok. Problem or benefit is that the IROK is only in a 36" as opposed to the 35 of the Trxxus. Not sure if I'd clear the 36" with Slee 4" springs.

It appears the IROK is more aggressive....hmmm

thanks for that number Woody, I'll give them a call, see what they say.

*kicking you in the nutsack!*

You did go with Slee front control arms, no? If you have then why wouldn't they fit?? I'm running them with 4" fronts, and non-J coils in the rear.

*tap,tap..tap*

You're killin me man .. christ they stuff so nicely I can drag my mudflaps on the grass .. and the final pic to demonstrate how tame they start out, in the front wells if you trim your front bumperettes.

Cooper's website show 34.47" for the Discoverer STT in 315/75-16. If you like the look of the Toyo, this is very close to the same look.

I just put on a set of 285s on my LX tonight. Can't comment on the ride/noise until I actual drive it, but a friend has them on his rig and likes them better than the Truxus MTs they replaced. The side biters are a lot more aggressive in real life than they look in pictures.

If you want Toyo MT's, try Eric over at:

http://www.dktire.com/stores/TX/Texarkana.htm

Supposedly they're the biggest Toyo dealer in the country. I know of 3 sets he was able to find in the past 6 months when nobody else could find them. They do not take credit cards though. I sent him a cashiers check without problems. Make sure they don't charge you sales tax on the out-of-state purchase. You will have to pay freight though.

Yeah I was wondering about that. I am getting the arms, they should be in in two weeks according to slee....so the next two weeks are gonna be :hillbilly without any caster correction....it'll be a good week to bike.

My Toyo's were my first choice so I'll see if this guy has them....if not I may just sack up to the prefferred tire of Starbucks!

thanks everyone for their input.

Mickeys are smaller

They measure 34" on the stock lexus rims...

They look good. A 34" measurement on the rig isn't bad...just eyeballing they look about like a 34" trxus...which is a really nice size.

Let us know how they work for you.
