Does anyone know if there's an adapter that can be used to turn a shaft using a typical pipe threader? In another words, instead of turning a die for cutting new threads on a pipe, I'd like to turn a 5/8" keyed shaft to turn a sprocket.

Here's what I got: Portable Electric Pipe Threader

I'd like to weld a 5/8" keyed shaft to the center of this adapter so that this machine can rotate a shaft which will in turn rotate a sprocket.

I see that Rigid has a square bore adapter, so it's along the same line but I need a 5/8" circular hole for a 5/8" shaft Ridgid Square Drive Adapter For 1AC02, 15/16 In 42620 | Zoro.com

I suppose I can sacrifice the 1/2" pipe threading die and somehow weld a 5/8" shaft to it but was hoping to avoid that!

SWAG sells an adapter for just that - to use the pipe threader to power their tubing roller: SWAG Machined Drive Hub

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but they don't tell the diameter of the shaft for their setup: SWAG 4130 Replacement Drive Axle

If you specifically need the 5/8" shaft, you can probably contact Troy at SWAG about having a setup made for you. He's usually pretty good about responding to inquiries.

Oh man, that's AWESOME info. Thanks for that. I'm checking it out right now.

Edit: I spoke to Troy and the OD of that shaft is 20mm, which is .787". I'll need to change the direction of my project to see if I can use his shaft which is 11" long and maybe find a pulley with a 3/4" ID. Either way, this is progress.

Ideally, I'd like to find an adapter to go between his 20mm hole and my 5/8" keyed shaft. :hillbilly:I bet I can find an adapter or have someone local make me one.

Should be a simple matter to mill a sleeve. They might exist, but the metric to standard might be an oddball.
