Looks like a regular pintle...should not have any problems just as long as you use the safety pin

Is 30 tons way too much or is it within a reasonable level of overkill? :D , there are smaller ones in Amazon, but I'd get free two day shipping with this one.

30 ton is over kill...can't tell how big it is in the pic might be commercial truck size.

that one looks exactly like mine...and its only a 5 ton (i think). it should be fine for extraction on a 70. i think the rear xmember is more secure than an 80. a much heated debate in the 80 forum whether the pintle is an ideal recovery point or not. also ensure you're using grade 8 hardware.

yep, they stand up well, been using a similar for decades of recovery duties... safer than a ball or hook.

Pintel hook should be fine its all most of us use on the rear here in Malaysia we use them for winching connection point and snatching. Although most of us winch rather than snatch due to the terrain and the extremely thick mud and we cannot snatch Cherokees, Pajeros, new Navara's etc and other monocoque vehicles or the newer crumple zone front rails on the pickups.

Just have to make sure whatever you connect it to is not going to move - usually the rear bar has spacers to connect it to the cross member to stop flex. I assume you are going to use the correct bolts etc to connect it :)
