Do you guys think that this would work on a 4x4 trailer. I would make a sleeve that the long bolt would go through and put a grease fittling in it. this would allow the hitch to move 360 degrees. On the receiver end I woulf use the pintle eye. DO you think this would hold up.

Yeah! That is really cool. The m416 and I think the Canadian version both used a rotating lunette ring, so I can't see why that wouldn't work great!

Just use beefy tubing for the sleeve obviously, and I would go with a grade 8 ny-lock nut.

Where did you get that thing?

why do you want to put the pintle on the trailer rather than on the truck as is normally done?

BTW I have a complete pintel assembly ( including chains and lunette stand) off an M101 PM me if you are interested

I have not decided if I am going to put it on the trailer or build a receiver.

I put a reciever on the trailer AND the cruiser. Lunette ring swiles on the end of a 2X square steel tube in the reciver on the trailer, and the pintle hitch fits the reciever on the truck. This is pretty flexible - since you can extend the tongue length off-road, and remove the lunette entirely when you park the trailer at camp. This means that it would be pretty hard to steal the trailer, and makes it store easier due to the shorter length. You can also use the truck reciever ofr other hitches if needed. Gotta' boat?

That's a Treg, but it's just what you are talking about. They use a free-running nut drilled for a 1/8 inch roll pin. It's now loctited and safetied by peening two places on each side of the roll pin holes. Safety wire could be added for the truly anal.

I wouldn't trust a nylock nut for that application, unless you can find a self-locking castle nut, which might be hard in that large a size.

If you figure something out post up a few pictures.

i have a M416 trailer and a pintle hook that i slide into my jeep to tow it. It, the trailer has followed me in some amazing places and the hook works great. Rattles a little but then i put some packing material like foam in the hitch as i close it and it takes the rattle away. I have pics if interested. Coltonkid
