Beasley certainly took its toll. I need a little help trying to resolve a bent pinion gear. I have done a lot of research and need to reach out to my fellow wheelers.

Current setup is an 89 V6 3.0 mini truck. geared 4.10 factory w/ a lockright locker.

My immediate budget minded goal is to find a factory 4.10 replacement pinion gear and simply replace the existing one. It's not the ideal setup but at least gets me back on the trails.

I think I know the other options such as buying 4.88s or other and replace front and rears but again trying to do on a budget.

So, anyone got a V6 pinion gear out there or a replacement diff or have any better options?

did you take alook at graigslist not just atlanta had a few toyota axles on in the pass
what years will work on your truck

yea, I'm on the hunt and keeping a lookout for a 4.10 diff or pinion gear. the v6 is a bastard child and I found a few decent options but not of the 4.10 variety. Re-gearing is the desired route but you have to do both front and rear which starts to get expensive.

I have a stock 4 cyl 4.10 mini truck diff at the shop if you are interested.

definitely interested, I'm struggling with a question. will the v6 lockright locker fit into the 4cyl diff? if so let's talk!

I dont know, but I do also have a 8" Aussie Locker on the shelf as well.

I think I have a new solution. I have a line on a front and rear 4.30 mini diffs out of a 86 4cyl. for $150. So here's the new plan: :hmm::hmm:

I own 2 minis both v6 & 4WD. Truck 1 is geared 4.30 so I remove the 4.30 V6 rear diff from truck 1 and install it into my trail rig (truck 2). Then take the purchased 4.30 4cyl diff. and throw it back into truck 1 making it whole again. The gearing matches up so all should be good w/ truck 1 giving me a V6 front diff and a 4 cyl. rear diff.

back to Truck 2, Now I will have a v6 4.30 rear and v6 4.10 front so I either install the 4cyl 4.30 diff in the front and call it a day OR move the 4.30 V6 front diff from truck 1 and also put it into truck 2. Then replace that diff with the purchased 4 cyl. 4.30 diff giving me 2x 4 cyl. 4.30 diffs in truck 1 and 2x V6 4.30 diffs in truck 2. This allows me to retain the brand new locker in my trail rig and everything again SHOULD bolt right in

Any holes in this theory?

Sounds like it will work to me. When do we start?

It also sounds like a good time to put a locker in the front.

Had to make a quick dash to FL so i will be back in town Sunday evening. Looking at the diffs on Monday night to purchase. we'll schedule from there.

If it'll work, let's do it!:wrench:

New diffs obtained, bought front and rear 4.30 diffs and 2 CV axles all for $150. Swapping the rear diff is no big deal and will probably do this week, however the front might be another story. :bounce:

hmm, schedule? I will have to work on this as the :princess: is supposed to be back this week.

Never done a diff swap, but I've heard getting it right is tricky. Don't you have to adjust "back lash" or something that requires expensive tools? I hope its just a bolt on type thing, just playing devil's advocate. I know I've seen articles where you put gooey dye on the teeth of the ring/pinion to see how to adjust the backlash.

Rick, you're exactly right if you are installing a new ring and pinion gears in the diffs. For that reason, I have chosen the easy and cheaper route of just replacing the entire differentials. With Replacement diffs those issues are mute as the diff simply bolts right in to the axles. A bonus is that I then have spares for the future.

Great day, back to trail ready!!!!! After performing the musical differential game everything is back as it should be.

Spent 6 hours yesterday trying to pull an O2 sensor off Downhill Dave's Tundra only to be turned back, the damn thing just would not come off!:mad::mad:

We started on my truck about 3 and by 5:15 we complety swapped out both front and rear diffs including the rear locker. 2 hours and 15 minutes aint too bad for a Johnny 1-Thumb :)flipoff2:) and his mad-mechanics.

Almost forgot, turns out the old diff not only had a bent pinion but also 3 broken teeth on the ring gear. :censor:

Also got the new diff in the daily driver complete this mornig and seams to be working great.

Thanks Again guys! I owe a case of:beer: to shop owner.

Now it's off to the trail next weekend!!!!
