Looks expensive to me. Why not just buy a 416?

I think they look sweet. I ran across their site about a month ago and I will probably be using their "style" when I get around to building my trailer. Other than that I don't have any experience with them.

They look simple enough and there really isn't anything to them that couldn't be easily fabbed or purchased. Taking that into consideration they are probably a little overpriced. Compared to some of the adventure trailer competition they look like a real bargain. It looks like they will custom build to your specs. If it is the look you like then you might want to consider getting a 416 or similar and adding the wood paneling and a top yourself. I want mine to be nice and light, with some unique features and sized to my needs, so I don't have that luxury.

It looks fairly straight forward to make one similar. Pricey!

I like the old military resto's myself. They are a fun project also.

off hiway ? are those fenders legal for the street, aint much coverage there?

From what I can see in the photos, I doubt the fenders are street legal in Oregon.

But that never seems to get enforced here unless the officer is anal retentive with an ax to grind, or the driver is a total jackass.

After doing spring overs on my M100 and civie Bantam jeep trailers, those fenders aren't street legal either. They should have mud flaps installed. So far I've been ignored by the law. If I was a teenage kid they'd probably be on it like flies on s***.

Yep, that's what I would like to do, to tinker with, build as I want, etc.

Thought their trailer/site was interesting. They do seem to be overpriced. Nice, but a little expensive.

..or you're in the Southern Part of Oregon before the Wilamette Valley and your rig has California plates.

Fixed. :D I'm curious if they are the one's who trolled up the whole AT Trailer failure thread myself. Build a 416 up, it'll be worth more in the long run.

Hi everyone.

My name is Dave Williams and I am the owner, designer, and build of our Pikes Peak Trailers.

I appreciate the interest and comments. I will address a few of them as they are very legit and I hear them often.

1) Price - I know that $3k seems like alot for a small trailer, and in fact it is. But, if you price any of our known US competitors we have the lowest prices. Many of our competitors offer you a manufactured tub, with no lid or tires for significantly more than our price. We offer you a rolling, DOT legal, ready to hit the trail solution that has been tested at 90MPHs on the hwy to the trails of Moab.

2) We use very high quality components: 3k lb axles, New BFG tires, new Cragar rims, very heavy duty steel (2" sq tube, 3/16" thick for the keel), shocks, rear receiver hitch etch, Ultra lube spindles, and a hydraulic assisted lid.

3) Each trailer is hand made to your specs - everything. There are no rules and most mods are at no cost, including increasing the size. If you want a 62" wide trailer vice a 59" trailer, you got it - no cost. You want steel sides instead of wood - you got it. No cost. We only add to the price when they require significant additional fab or part.

I work with every customer through a lengthy design process to build it to their specs. And I do this before you sign a contract.

4) I am an outdoorsman, an off roader, a camper and a fisherman. I am on a trail in CO at least twice a week towing one of our trailers. This is my community.

5) For the DIY guys - I am all for that and this is how our company started. There is very little to no intellectual property with our trailers. Over half my price is in wholesale parts costs. When you factor in the labor, I am making much less than my other profession. I do this out of passion for metal work and the need for a creative outlet working with steel. Plus I love what I do and I love the off road community and the people I meet. If anyone wants the source Google Sketchup models so that you can have our exact design and parts list, let me know and I will email it to you.

Finally, I will leave with several build and design pics.
Thanks again and I hope everyone has a great weekend.

DRTDuck I think you found a nice trailer.

Ya you could buy a 416 but by the time you clean it up, rebuild everything, re-work the suspension, wire it, paint it, build a lid, get the hubs to match your pattern, and weld on all the tie-down points you will have very close to what Daves asking if not more.

Hey Dave thanks for your posting it added value to your trailer and drove me to your site. Your site again added more value and sold me. I think you have a very nice complete product and with your added flexibility I see it as a value and I would pay your price. Note: Im cheap

The ultra lube spindles you are using are the s***! Soon to be on my popup

Dave I Pm'd you some questions so not to hi-jack DRTDuck thread.

Well, color me impressed, Dave.

Dave,

Welcome to Mud and good luck with your trailer building endeavors. Seems like a tough business to survive in, so I hope you can do it, make a few bucks, and have a ton of fun testing them.

I really like the wide fender model...seems there's never enough flat surface while camping.

Pat

Thanks for posting Dave, certainly seems like you have a nice value there. I too like the wide/flat fender model drawings that you posted.
