but its just got no go my Wife sone and i like to go explore the country side she is the presedent of her 4X club and so we are going out every weekedn my runner wil not tow out little 4x8 trailor with camping crap on it and i was wondering if you all thought a 6cyl pig would do much better the runner has seen better days but even in its priem it has no torque and i have always liekd the fj55s

so is there aney thing i should know about them that i havent figured out yet LOL i know quite a few cruzer guys all of them tell my to keep the mimie becous ther cheeper but i dont much care about tha part

What are the specs on the 72? How much $$?
Stock would mean:
3 speed tranny
drum breaks all around
manual steering
F engine

Pigs are not known for their towing capacity with the stock engine.

I'll throw out some thoughts just my opinions so take them with a grain of salt. From my experience a 55 or 40 does not make a good tow vehicle for anything. Cruisers are HEAVY and while the stock 6 does good moving the vehicle when you ad that much more to it then it will not perform as well. If you do an engine swap to a v8 or find one that has it would probably be much better for towing. As for other stuff look for rust and good luck.

humm

the 72 is totaly stock dident fine much rust at all in fact i think my 86 runner has more rust

noe where not talking a camp trailor here its a mantom trailor wich weigs 500 lbs and the camp gears is less than 250 i know i weighed it i used to tow it with my samuri but i lived in flat country then i coud do a v8 swap what kind of fuel mileage diffrance is there i have towed this with my runner but i pull hills slow as hell and my mileag drops to 10

A V8 swap has plenty of towing power, I pulled a similiar trailer up mountains etc. with over 500 lbs. on the trailer in my 55. Mileage was around 15 on the highway with the trailer... HTH.

Stock engine towing a trailer I would say under 10mpg depending what you swap in the mpg will vary. Cardinal Fang made a good point though you wont have power steering not good with a trailer, drum brakes not good with a trailer mine have a hard enough time stopping the pig alone.

I'm surprised if there is little to no rust. FJ55's are known to have rust issues. Check the following areas: front fenders behind the front wheels, drivers and passenger floorboards and bodymounts in that area, rockers, rear quarter panel clear back to the lights, floor seam under the rear seat, roof rain gutters and windsheild frame, "A" pillars....

I'm sure there are other areas too.

If you like FJ55's they do look different but be forewarned, body parts are HARD to find.

pigs are definietly original and eye catching, they can be alot of work and money depoending on the end result.

that little trailer you have will be fine, i tow a off road trailer around on long trips loaded to about 1k pounds and on 36" tires, its low on power but will tow it all day no worries.

thanks for the info guys

ya the lack of power definatly more noticable off road with the runner

the 55 was orignaly from christmass valley oregon its verry dry ther less than 10" of rain a year

but i will check thos places

brakes and p/s

ok so i have 3 mini front diffs laying about i have read about the mini disk swap and helped a buddie do a mini rear disk swap on his 72 40

it also has a camaro p/s box i have herd of pepole using a mini box also what would you all recomend it will have 36s eventuly

Christmas Valley, Oregon???

That's down the road (HWY 97), kinda. Are you in Central Oregon? Just curious. I used to tow two snowmobiles behind my cruiser and only had problems on the steeper hills, BUT I had also swapped in front disk brakes, 4.56 gears, 33's, blah, blah, blah.

Your plan will work great. Upgrade brakes, steering, etc. The pig will do fine, just don't plan on passing anyone going uphill. Good Luck-and welcome to the addiction.

im looking at a 69 tonight and looking at the 72 agin i will take pics and post up

the 69 is suposed to have a rebuilt f motor and a 2" lift with a winch for 1500 bux

Get some pics up and I'm sure we will be able to give you a decent estimate of the value, and our usual opinions of which one we like.

i got pics last night dident have a chance to down load them at home and cant doit here at work so it will be tonight

the 69 has a pto winch that is suposed to work and some rust nothing i couldent fix but i needs a right front fender some thing fierce and has a big ass dent on the left rear top corner that i dont know if could be fixed it has the old warn flip lever hubs 2 slid bars it is still owned by the origanly famly grand pa passed and left it to grandsone who has no respect so hes selling it it needs some work but nothing to bad best part i can get it for about 800 bux

the 72 i looked at agin becous its on my way home
runs sweet no rust that i can find in aney of the places that i was told to look was the guys daily driver till he was shiped out and now that hes back dosent have tiem for it with famly and all compleetly stock with white wall car rubber his plan was to do a 350/350 swap wich it comes with a truck motore and tranny
