Thanks...it was a great time made better by the "all hands on deck" field repairs, great trails and camp gatherings. Tell Jeri we missed her.I'd like to thank the guys who put this trip all together, John, Jim and Mark it was a great party and perfect trails. Another great trip! Also I'd like to thank the guys who jumped in to help with the mechanical problems that popped up. We all have some issues sometimes and it's nice to have a group with an idea or two. In my case Craig saved my bacon with removing the Hi/Low shifter rod in order to get me back to Hi gear. Putting the transmission into 5th gear and low range I could push up to 18 mph, would not of liked driving home that way! While Craig and I worked on the Mud Hen, Gordon called his wife and she found us rooms right in Silverton for the night. Within the hour we were fixed and eating dinner, truly awesome, just made the whole trip perfect!
Thanks to everyone, we all deserve a salute!
Onward to Pig Party 2023.....
It is truly spectacular whether viewed from the more accessible south rim or the other side. North Rim campground is a little more remote and populated mainly by climbers. From the main south side access there's a road that takes you down to a spot in the bottom along the river. Float trip trout fishing on the North Fork of the Gunnison River is a big deal.Gordon and I at Black Canyon of the Gunnison....

Pictures really don't do this place justice, you just have to see it in person.
1) I wear overalls, not suspenders
2) hillbilly is more TN/KY/WV. I’m from AL, “redneck” is more appropriate![]()
I was conceived on the Crystal River back in 76 near the destination side of where you where trying to get. My parents lived in pad just below Redstone. This area is pretty unreal. Long drive around to the Roaring Fork Valley side, but pretty amazing over there too. Either way, keep the shots coming! After split with Ron, went to Crested Butte and hoteled it. Next day attempted 317 to Crystal Mill then to Marble. Only got a 1/2 mile of incredible trail till it got fall into a ravine sketchy. The photo of the road is deceiving the narrowest point just before the outcropping to the right is about 5’ wide and has a deep right dip at the 5‘ wide point.
Not worth the death considering it gets worse after thisView attachment 3059227View attachment 3059228View attachment 3059233
Looks like you reached what’s called the Devil’s Punchbowl. People have died there. The trail is Schofield Pass, one of the most famous difficult routes in Colorado. We last did it in the Pig a couple of summers ago and have done it numerous times over the years, the first time in an old 1949 Jeep in the early 1970’s. I personally think Schofield is more challenging than Black Bear Pass into Telluride. After split with Ron, went to Crested Butte and hoteled it. Next day attempted 317 to Crystal Mill then to Marble.
