hey deserdude,
Where did you buy that FJ40, I have seen quite a few with dealer installed goofy graphics (not to say yours are goofy, original !!) mostly from arizona.
ever think of removing them ??? think you would haveto repaint to match..?
speaking of FJ40 original:
I am trying to get my hands on 4 more of these DUNLOP SNOW CRUISER 78 optional original equipment tires, the new one I have was the spare tire that never rolled...........hmmmmmmmmmm, must search.
My '79 was bought new when I lived in Milford Pennsylvania. I paid 13,500 for it. It had that new car smell I sold it to a friend a few years later and bought 2 more since then.

I removed the pin striping on my 86 fj60, it took ALOT of work, used a pin stripe erasor(goes on a drill and is basicaly a BIG erasor) Pin stripe came off OK(again alot of work) but what happens is the paint is better under the pin stripe, so you get kinda a reversed stripe on the paint, you WILL be able to see where it used to be, on a brighter color(like the blue) it would be more noticible. I buffed out the area and it's alot less noticible, and IMOP better than the 86 vintage pin stripe. Mine was just thin lines, BIG stripes would be more noticible.

Here are a few scans of a brochure from Australia. The date on the brochure is Feb. 1982 but it looks more like an '83 model.
the LX model of the 40(2) got the newer dash(like a 83 in the US) a few years(80 or 81) earlier than the US, but only on the LX model(which has the rear panels, forward facing seat, and groovy fabric)
P.s Who would I have to sleep
with to get that brochure
I am particular to that color also – same color as my ’82. I got the brochure from a guy in Australia, which looks like he is your neck of the woods. I lost his e-mail address but he regularly sells brochures on eBay under the user name “robh91”. Try contacting him if you are really interested. He also had a lot of other LC brochures.

I think I have one of those the rim is different on an 82 but the same tire
That pic of the 79 with no dashpad just looked so clean I went out to the shop and ditched my dash pad and the sheetmetal flange it mounted to. Looks so good without it my wife accused me of cleaning my truck. I told her to wash her mouth out with soap. Now I just need one of those sweet grab bars like in the pic.

grab bar looks like a standard fj40, like my early 40's and 45's have, should be easy to find one.
also notice the window hinges and other parts have a rubber cover on them. As well as the funky covers from the fender to bumper, this is some kinda euro requirment as I seen em on Finnish Criuisers as well.
