I am replacing a cable accelerator with a mechanical accelerator pedal and linkage to a trollhole carb.

I have the linkage parts shown here, still need to source a pedal, but I have no idea how to hook all the parts up, or what I'm missing.

If someone has or could take some detailed pics, I'd sure appreciate it. Current throttle situation is totally unacceptable.

My current pedal is a cable pedal.

The linkage is difficult to photograph without disassembly. Here are a few photos looking down at it past all the other junk.

The bracket in the bottom of your photo bolts to the firewall. The bracket on the top of your photo bolts to the carb base, using the carb studs/nuts. The long bellcrank assembly spans from the firewall bracket to the carb bracket. The long tie rod is operated by the accelerator pedal and pushes up on the bellcrank, which rotates clockwise from the front of the truck and pushes the short tie rod inboard, operating the linkage on the rear of the carb. I can take a photo of the later model accelerator if you don't already know what they look like.

73-84 linkage diagram from SOR. You have most of the parts. You'll need bolts for the firewall bracket, grommets for each end of the bellcrank, and a return spring, in addition to the later-model pedal. Second sketch shows the firewall bracket.

I have only set the carb in and dry fitted things. These are the only pics I have with me at the time, but I have lots others. These will give you a little info.

All of you are helping a bunch! Thank you!

Yes, if you have a photo of the pedal, that will help.

How does the long tie rod connect to the pedal - does it have a ball tip on it? [STRIKE]And the short tie rod, is there a ball tip of the carb that I've just not seen yet?[/STRIKE].
EDIT - while composing, another helper sent the perfect picture for that question. Can we get an entire manual that looks like that? The SOR stuff is so friggin small.

Accelerator pedal. Yeah, the linkage connections are all ball and socket. The paddle at the top of the pedal assembly is for a smog switch. The paddle was drilled for a cable by a previous owner and I'll be welding it up soon.

I just went and looked at the firewall of my '68. My throttle is the cable type rather than a shaft (which my '84 FJ60 has). If you look closely at some of the other pics here you will see a rubber boot (item 65 on SOR diagram) on the firewall below the firewall pivot point of the linkage. The adjustable vertical shaft (item 53) connects to the shaft that protrudes through this boot from the pedal assembly. I don't know when the cable throttle was switched to the shaft type. I was under the impression this changed with the advent of the 2f. Someone with a '76 or a better understanding of this dilemma should feel free to chime in.

If you have a cable going through the firewall attached to your accelerator pedal you may need to modify your pedal assembly to make this work. does your pedal look like the one in the post above?

Fish, no, my pedal is a cable type (see picture in first post).

2thDoc, I went out and tried to test fit without removing the old carb and the cable, and it still doesn't make sense. Looking at your photos removed helps a little since you have the pedal in the photo.

So the pedal pivots on the bar that sticks out 90 degrees from the shaft near the L-shaped bend?

Those are some really strange angles on those pin connectors.

So, ah, I think I see, the pedal sticks thru the firewall?

Thank you Spot.

Where does SOR get the exploded parts diagrams anyway? Are they in the FSMs? Love to find those, SORs are so small.

The paddle is a great spot to connect a hand throttle, especially if you have the bracket for the full-throttle switch.

That is exactly what I used it for on my trail truck. The throttle pedal shown above is for a stock truck that I'm refurbing.
