For folks who don't go rock crawling, the running boards make perfect sense, even if some think the look isn't great. Helps to go in and out and protects the body from spray. Nothing wrong with them at all, IMHO, unless, of course, one is into the pseudo-macho look syndrome... :)

For all of those who are offended by my running boards:D, I DO intend to remove them, just not yet.

The thread is intended to showcase my new tires and let people know what their cruiser would look like with the same. (with running boards:D)

How do they ride at higher speeds (50mph and up)?

Any significant vibration at higher speeds?

TIA

I have driven them on the freeway a few times, and there is no vibration, they feel real good.

I'm sure glad mine didn't come with RUNNING BOARDS.... Saved me the work of taking them off and selling them to some putz... :D

HeHeHe!!! I noticed your's didn't come with those!! I also noticed you got the cool front mudflaps.

All this peer pressure, I might just take it in to work tomorrow and tear those POS running boards off.

WOULD THAT MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY? HUH? WOULD IT!!!!:D:D:D

Anyone have a set of front mudflaps for me?

Dude mine don't have front mud flaps.... I have rear ones though!
Go check out my second thread.... Looks just fine without the front mud flaps!
:steer:

Took the running boards off a couple of weeks ago. Don't have front mudflaps, and have not noticed much splatter at all on the rocker panels, despite doing a fair amount of driving on somewhat muddy gravel roads.

I ran without the front mudflaps for quite awhile and once I put them on they really cut down the amount of spray on the side of the truck. They are well worth the call to C-Dan.

I've got front and rear mud flaps in the basement, but I think I may keep them if I ever take the sliders off. Though my TJM rear bumper accommodates them, I thought it looked better without.

And the sliders don't leave any room for the fronts.

I got a roll of skateboard tape at the local hardware store to put on my tube sliders. That stuff is rough! Ain't nobody slippin' off these babies... (but it you do, don't scrape your leg on it...)

Yeah, the opposite problem. Had skateboard tape on the tube sliders on the 80, she slid off them on a trip and completely ripped up the backs of her legs (wearing shorts at the time). Had to cover the seat with a towel to keep the blood off. I can't win!

I guess I am something of a purist because here is my opinion on the running boards....Were running boards included in the original design of the vehicle or were they more of an afterthought or accessory type of thing ? Are they truely needed or are they more like jewelry? I think with the domestication of SUV's in general the things are becoming ever present...

Took the plunge and ordered 5 295 terraglaps to replace my bigOs...
1025 mounted, balanced, bigO warranty. I am cranking my OME tbars a bit since it has settled down a bit.

It will be installed Thurs. Would the spare fit underneath even with the tow hitch?

Thanks.

I think Pint had a 295 underneath. Not sure if he had the hitch. re_gaurdian has it now, maybe he can chime in

Hwy22, My 295 fits underneath with the tow hitch, I think yours will fit too!

Thanks. I am so excited my baby is getting new shoes! High heels!

Ill post pics... Going through Moab on the 28th on my way to northern AZ, then Vegas, then to Zion/Bryce... Spring break and my kid wants to see Route 66... Any beta appreciated...

Funny you say that about getting a awd mini van if you want running boards, my awd sienna doesnt have them but my 99LC does! I agree on the look but wife insists they be on there to help her get in. I'll have to watch and see if she actually uses it and collect some data in order to convince her they are not needed. LOL.

Back on topic, the tires look great. Fills up the wheel well space and is in proportion to the truck. Have you noticed any decrease in accerlation or mpg?

10 to 1 she steps OVER them (both getting in and getting out) It's actually awkward to use them!.....try it, and see if you don't agree.......

Back to original topic: So what's the consensus on the Nittos vs. BFGs? I've got 2 FZJ80's that are about to need tires, and the Nittos would sure be a BIG savings (well, I'm probably going to put KM2's on one, but the Nittos would save on the other one) I've always used BFG ATs, but since they've gotten so FREAKING outrageous (and they're only available in an "E" load rating in the 305/70's I plan to use), I'm looking at alternatives.....what say y'all?

2 days with the 295 Nittos and so far so good! Actually they are super quiet compared to the BigO 285s they replaced. Sorry cant compare with the BFGs...

Looks great... Funny how my wife do not see a difference in the look and she has lots of black shoes and claims they are all different... Hmmm... Ill try that strategy when i get an extra set with KM2s.
