In case any of you are interested in phone mounts for your LC, I recently (last week) upgraded to the iPhone 11 Pro Max which, being a larger phone (the largest I have ever had) I will start using that for my GPS and other in-vehicle needs in my Land Cruiser. Previously I was using an iPad on a RAM floor mount arrangement. That worked great but it was of course in the way of any passenger. I will now be able to remove that.

What makes this work for me, in addition to having a larger phone, is this mount that I found online. The particular model I have linked below is for 200-series Land Cruisers. It mounts into a spare accessory plug location (if you have a spare). I installed it today and took it out on some moderately rough terrain. Of course it wiggles a bit on rough road but nowhere near as much as the iPad on that floor mat did. Also, the placement of the phone is close to the steering wheel. I'm almost able too tap it with my right hand on the wheel in the 2 o'clock position. It is also close enough for facial recognition.

They also provide a thin piece of metal (actually 2 - one is round and the other is rectangular). This can be fixed to the back of the phone or to a case. I simply placed it on the inside of my Apple case where it is against the back of the phone but I did not need to use the adhesive. Also, the manufacturer mentions that the placement of the metal piece on the rear of the phone may prevent wireless charging. But in the case of my larger phone and by placing the metal piece in the "bottom" of the case it was positioned such that I was still able to place my phone on the built in wireless charging pad on my 2016 LC and it successfully charged.

I have attached a couple of pics. The mount is not cheap but it is well made. Here is a link to the manufacturers site.

I haven't posted anything for a couple of months due in large part to our move to Bend, Oregon. But I thought some of you may be interested in this solution. I will now remove the RAM mount and leave my iPad at home or tuck it away. Let me know if you have any questions though the information on the website and the install instructions are very straightforward.

Dan

I have a very similar magnetic phone mount for my iphone in my DD. The magnet is fine for driving around town, but will not hold the phone offroad. Yours must be quite a bit stronger.

I also use the magnetic mount method (scosche shown below). I tried one of the ones w a "flex arm" but it vibrated way to much.

anything that requires a metal plate which block wireless charging without removing the case is a deal-killer for me... cool design though.

I love these magnetic phone mounts. So convenient, and the newest ones are incredibly strong, especially if you stick the metal plate to the outside back of the phone case. I have one for my ham rig mic, and the FRS/GMRS radio I use when on group runs with the Miata club.

My phone (Pixel 3a XL) doesn't support wireless charging, I really don't see the need. YMMV

Wireless charging is incredibly slow compared to regular charging. My last 2 phones have supported wireless charging and I never use it.

The metal plate does not block wireless charging in my case. At least not when setting on the wireless charging pad built in to the 2016+ LC or the Belkin wireless charging stand I have on my nightstand. The metal plate is not that large. It sits in the lower "quarter" of my case (an Apple leather case) between the case and the phone. I don't use wireless charging all that much. But leaving it on a wireless charging pad overnight is convenient. And when on long road trips I sometimes set the phone on the built in wireless charging pad. But when I have it on this mount I will run a short lightning cable from the charging plug I have in the "cigarette lighter".

I was pleased with the lack of vibration when I drove it off road yesterday. Far, far better than the floor mounted RAM mount that had been holding my iPad. But that is a pretty low bar for comparison. The flex are on this one is fairly stiff and stout. And the fact that it secures with a bolt into the dashboard helps as well. But I am sure you get less vibration with the one you show above. I just didn't want to "stick" anything to my dash.

I will say that after driving with it for a couple of days, there is a slight bit of vibration. Nothing like I had with my iPad and nothing the is a problem for me. But there is some vibration there. (It could be because I keep fiddling with the position of the phone by pushing or bending the support which likely loosened the bolt securing it to the dash board. I'm going to go back and tighten that. And also work the bend/position of the support enough so I will leave it alone. (I'm a bit OCD on stuff like this.)

Hi Dan,
Just wanted to check in to see how the CravenSpeed is holding up. Is the vibration worsening now that you've had it for a few months or did it improve when you tightened it?
Thanks, Jeff
