Hi Guys!

Washington Area Trail Riders (WATR) is holding a Trail Day on February 7 (weather permitting).

They will be refreshing the blazes that mark the Tasker's Gap trail. We would work on the Peter's Mill 4x4 trail, refreshing blazes, clearing deadfalls, trimming back the briar's and checking for erosion problems. The area is closed to the public, but WATR has the key to go out and work on the trails before they open to the public. If you are interested in coming out WATR will have lunch. They will also ride their bikes on the trails and we are welcome to join them when the work is done. Let me know if you are interested and I will coordinate with WATR.

TikiCruiser, Jakes40 and I did this last spring. They are a good bunch of guys. It was definitely a good time and a great excuse to get out in the woods. The trails aren't overly taxing, so it's an easy ride if the family wants to join in.

I am in.
Sounds like fun!

This is a good opportunity for some of the more stock rigs to get out.

Also, there is no requirement to bring your own rig. There will almost certainly be seats available for those that want to ride along.

I would be there and hope you guys organize more trips. I'm tied up in school the next 13 Saturdays. If it gets rescheduled for a Sunday I'm in!

I was there monday, last day open to the public till spring. One of the guys saw a bear.

Let me know if you all need something. I'm right up the road. I may be there.

I may come out to play a little. got to check with the social planner.

My daughter drove it last year. It's a great trail for a teenager to drive.

We used lopers and an electric saws all last year. We were mostly clearing out briyer (SP?) bushes and a couple of down trees less than 3" in diameter.

By far the best tool to have is a recip saw. I brought an electric last year because my taco has the outlet in the bed, but if I did it again I would just bring a cordless. It's quick on the brush, and can take out most stuff a chain saw does up to 6" or so. I will be in South America so I can't make it, but have fun. It's also a good day to bring your dog. I didn't last year because the park rules said no dogs, but all the motorcycle guys had theirs, and I regretted not bringing Tiki.

Heavy leather gloves, hand pruners, loppers, and a recip-saw are all you'll need. Maybe a shovel to fill-in any erosion. If they give you paint to refresh trail blazes you might wish you had some latex gloves and paper towels. I can't make it this year.

I'll see if I can dig up some driving directions. Everyone meets up on the mountain in the parking lot where the trails meet. It'll be on the right coming up the mountain from Edinburg, VA.

By the way, you guys with trail bikes that meet NFS rules are welcome to take them out and ride the trails with the WATR gang after the work is done (usually finish trail chores by noon).

I think I'm going to make it. Know to get the junk running. Or I'll bring the mini truck.

Update: Don't get there too early. 10am is probably about right. The guy with the keys has to be there to open the parking lot as well as the gate to the 4x4 trail.
