Anyone know why there is no performance headers for the 2012 FJ? I always seem to buy vehicles that have some weird setup than other years. I had a 1994 FJ80 that had a similar problem.

No market for them. Neither engine is designed for "performance", I'm sure you know an engine is simply an air pump, air in = air out. Without the ability to increase intake volume (and subsequent fuel), air out = headers are nothing more than expensive jewelry.

Considering one can't manipulate the ECU to manage more fuel/air intake, worrying about exhaust flow is mute. Mr. T designed his powerplants such that they can't be manipulated as easy as other manufacturers have and nobody in the industry has decided it's marketable enough to invest the time/resources to hack the system.

Most of us agree that the FJC has plenty of power to destroy the rear diff, pop front CV's and get the job done in a "stock" powerplant. Without upgrading the whole drivetrain, more HP/torque will only put more $$$ in repairs. Personally, I'd rather spend that $$$ on expeditions/trips/adventures, knowing the stock powerplant takes me pretty much anywhere I want to go...

I understand your point and it's completely valid. But they do make performance headers for every other year of the FJ Cruiser. 2012 is the only year that there is no after market performance header for.

I was considering exhaust and headers for a little bit better throttle response when on the freeway trying to pass people. I realize when off road the existing setup is more than adequate.

Like, Mtbcoach mentioned, its an air pump; air in and air out. So you may be able to achieve that extra response by fiddling with the intake side....which would be a lot easier. For example, a low restriction air cleaner, or shortening the air path.

I have an 07 and there's plenty of add on stuff for it including headers, O2 simulator (by Underdog Racing), and a supercharger (not sure if Toyota ever delivered on the promised one for 2010 and newer) ... to me it was why bother, the add-on stuff costs ... the truck has plenty of oomph, stock, for what I ask of it ... the other issue for me was emissions testing up here ... I wasn't going to fool around and then have issues getting it to pass now or in the future ... just too much of a hassle ... once you start tinkering there seems to be no end to it ... maybe its a blessing if there are no headers for a 2012 ...

Trying to remember the last person I knew who installed headers and actually liked them... but it's not coming. Seems like there are always issues, like fitment or leaking gaskets or they crack or they don't actually gain much power or...
