perfect condition M116 3/4 ton worth?? (2 Viewers)

have an opportunity to buy a basically perfect M116 Humvee flatbed trailer, top half is aluminum, has surge brakes, dual park brakes, Humvee wheels, weighs 750 lbs empty, has the elevated axle for higher ground clearance. I have seen this identical trailer go for over $1000 on ebay for it is the lightweight model, any ideas???

is it the M116A3?

awesome trailer...easy will support 3000lbs.

Then you can build whatever your little heart desires, a decent M116A2 without the generators will go for 500-750$

Why would you not want to run these tires?

becuase if I keep it will go behind my folks toyo 4runner and would be much higher trailing behind, we ould want to swap hubs to match their wheels, also going to put leafs under the axle instead of over. basically to look better behind their rig in needs to be narrower, their rig is 6' wide and this trailer is 7' wide but easily modifiable, so if we take those big wide tires off then I can shave some of the fender 6" or more on each and will look alot better behind theirs. its like my CDN M101 that trails behind my BJ42 is perfect and it is a 4'x6' box, need to make this new one a 6'x8' instead of 7'x8'

he has some 5 tons, deuce and a halfs, larger trailer, nothing good besides this one I spotted. no spare ladders or parts.

I also have a "flip top" version of this trailer. Also I'm thinking more along the lines of the Eziawn 1600 with hte ladder enclosed and a bigger changing room.

Go crazy my friend, trailer is just about right once you remove all the weight, , towed these things thru the desert in 91 and havent regretted it yet except I cant find one to build. Real potential here, do it right,,,Jim

Thanks brother. Here are some pics of what I may be planning to shave weight, narrow to a normal size and give a better streamline look and angle of approach? I masked off with duct tape. the outer tape puts the trailer right at 6' wide and just inside of that the other tape puts it at 5 1/2' wide. and then the tape running on inside would be where the tub if you will would drop down into, would have a tub shaped the same as CDN M101 braked and either bolt ii on or weld. basically the top of this trailer is just a platform so thats what makes it nice for with cutting all this away it does not mess with the frame structually for the actual frame runs down the middle where you see eack parking brake handle is attached and that is about 4' wide or just shy of. gonna get the wheels and hubs off and see what kind of hubs I can get for it and lug pattern? this what is truly gonna determine how much I can cut off.

I hope you can help me out now that you have had your M113A3 for some time. I have found one (frame only without a bed). I would like to get it, like you remove the tires and maybe replace the axel so that it can be pulled behind a jeep. What do you think? What were the challenges you faced during your build? How did the build turnout?

They come about 44" between the wheel wells...I ended up cutting mine so now it's about 49".

A good source for these can be Craigslist or Government Liquidators
