i’m testing an egr delete (went with the huddexpo kit) and have noticed in troubleshooting a p0401 code that i have a slightly loose PCV valve.

i’ve also noticed that on first start the vehicle idles high at about 1500 rpm. later it will idle at about 900 give or take.

can i just ask if i should put in a new PCV valve after i put in the EGR delete?

anything else i need to do? i mean, no EGR/FSM tests, no need to ream the air intake manifold, or replace vacuum hoses etc?

clean the throttle assembly at some point i guess?

other?

THANKS

Hey. I'm still learning on these rigs as well, and can't comment with any degree of expertise as to what and how each little piece will effect idle rpm, but... PCV valve, hose, grommet is a pretty cheap and easy change. Mine were all pretty rough.
High idle at initial start is common.
There are quite a few high idle posts floating in this forum, a big culprit seems to be the IACV (idle air control valve) get that little bugger cleaned up.
A good cleaning of the throttle body couldn't hurt. I'm not sure if other members are replacing the gasket between throttle body and intake (If you pull the throttle body off), or just clean in place.
I feel like the p0402 comes up a lot; for searching get out into google or whatever and search that specifically, it may help you from bouncing around in the engine bay too much.

thanks man,
trying to get a list so i can order once. i think i have throttle body gasket listed but thanks for the reminder it is needed.
i believe (?) IACV was removed in 96 (?) / 97 LX/LC. that could be an exceptionally dumb statement (so don’t quote me) but i think i remember reading this and i don’t think i ever found one on mine.
i guess since PCV is /in/ the engine even though it will no longer be in use - it needs to get replaced?
wonder if anything else falls in that category...?

PVC system is not related to the EGR delete. The PVC valve is steel and will not shrink, but the grommet is rubber and it can get loose with time and heat. Just replace the gromet.

IAC is still there in my '96. pretty sure that never left. Do the PCV grommet and hose. have needle nose pliers ready to grab the little bit of the grommet that will probably fall into the valve cover. Take off you EGR valve (Big spaceship, huge nut on the pipe at the back, and remove the studs). CLEAN IT by moving the plunger up and down and shooting parts cleaner in there. Clean out the two little brass pipes going into the throttle body from the EGR modulator (small spaceship) by running some wire through them. You'll feel it go around the corner. Clean the little passage that goes through the intake plenum. Put your EGR valve back on with a new gasket. Clear the code and see if it comes back. This is how I fixed mine after the CEL was on for a year. I wish I'd just done it in the first place.

gents. a follow up please.

throttle body gasket (22271) is suggested for PM.

anything else? what about that oring/gasket at the idle speed controller (22270)?

also 22270 is the IACV is that right?

THANKS

thanks. my bad on that. that’s what i get for thinking i can take a shot at freestyling with the acronyms. i guess it was the vacuum switching valve (VSV) that got deleted.
