Parts interchangeability

My wife's GX has had ongoing rear suspension issues for the last year, and I have already replaced the rear air springs with coil springs. For a while, the factory electo-adjustable shocks worked fine, but I think they've finally given up the ghost.

When I went on MetalTech's web site this afternoon to look at replacement suspension parts, I noticed that all of the parts they show as being compatible with this GX470 are listed as also being suitable for certain year FJ Cruisers and 4Runners.

So am I understanding that most suspension parts are interchangeable between FJ Cruisers, 4Runners, and GX470s? In particular at this point, I'm wanting to know about shocks.

Yes, shocks (many other parts too) for the 4th gen 4Runner as well as certain year FJs will fit our GX.

Note that the tie rods DO NOT work...different steering knuckles from the FJ.

Not sure if the 4R is the same or not. I know the CVs work though.

Broke all of the above and replaced CVs with FJ and tie rod with GX...all is well.

Thanks for the responses. At this point, I was primarily interested in the rear shocks. I had some Bilsteins for a 4Runner and I wanted to make sure they'd work before I switched them.

Easy switch, and it cured the sloppiness in the rear suspension.....
