not too sure i I don'nt think so.... Marks 4x4 Adaptors are developing new free wheeling hubs to suit the ABS.... its a small conversion on my new ones... ill have to wait and see..!

It would be more about range than fuel savings. But $825 to get 25 - 50 more miles range wouldn't be worth it.
range would only increase THAT much on the highway, which isnt that much of an issue finding fuel unless the Z's come. Offroad obviously you wont be getting much more range even if you stayed in 2wd, which you probably wouldnt anyways....so its completely irrelevant.
Lets say I get 12mpg on the highway now, and the parttime kit increase it one mpg over all driving conditions, even though Gary says it didnt increase it at all.
random fuel price i saw today for 91: 3.27
3.27/12 = $.2725/mile in fuel cost. 3.27/13 = $.2515 per mile. that's 2.1¢ per mile savings.
825/.021 = 39,285.7 miles
That's assuming you do all your own labor...which can add up quickly.

If the main reason was to reverse a boat up a steep driveway, wouldn't the "pin 7" modification done the same thing, allowing you to run low range with the centre diff unlocked? I did that modification for the same reason and it seems to work well...

Here you go! I just did this mod a couple weeks ago on my 99. Takes about 20 mins with hand tools.

Totally outdated thread but reviving in case anyone is interested. Just ordered the Marks kit and my buddy Jake at A Rusted Development is doing the work. Should be done in a week or two. I do a lot of desert camping camping which means long highway driving to get where I'm going before I even need to think about 4wd. Also live in mountains that get 400+in of snow and I like having RWD just to make driving more fun. I went PT with manual hubs on my 2nd gen 4runner and loved the difference. I'll give an update when it's done. 100 Series, OME 2.5 lift, pretty much stock otherwise.

Kit is in! Jake is a bit busy but I'll take it down to him Monday next week and it's only a day job so I should have an update very soon. Because I'm anal and money isn't too big of a worry I think I'll go to the dealer to get toyota gear oil. Or I'll go with Redline which is my personal favorite. Not the right thread but does anyone know if I should run GL-4 in this Tcase? I've always been very careful to run GL-4 in my older trucks and IMHO Redline MT-90 is amazing
Finally got around to getting this done. Would have done it sooner but we had a weekend trip planned and the wife said if I rushed the install and then didn't have a truck for trip I'd better find a new place to live. So far so good. It does feel a lot lighter in the front. The steering wheel turns with a finger. Much less pull in the front accelerating out of a corner and up hills. Plus I can now do doughnuts ha. All of that for what it cost? Whatever, I did it just for the fun of it. I'll keep an eye on mpg and other things and let you know how it goes. Next I need to get on some fun dirt roads and see how it handles, I'm sure it will be more fun (also in the snow). It look really sharp with the center caps cut out and back on around the red hubs. I wish there was another option beside AVM but for now I'll take it.

Pretty easy. Funny thing was i used a short fine tooth wood blade on the jigsaw and after I had made the whole cut the center did not fall out. The shavings of the plastic melted behind the blade and fussed back up so I had to cut the whole line again doing small sections at a time so it didn't fuss again. Then a little 80 grit paper to clean it up and it looks great. If you look closely you can tell it's not factory but if you aren't looking for it you'll never know. I'm really loving the feel of PT. It's great to be able to peel out of trailhead parking lots HA
Here's what I've got. 05 LC, Marks PT kit with factory CDL, no diff locks. When I press the CDL I get VSC Off light and CDL lock light. There is another light in between those light that is TRAC VSC. When I bought the truck that TRAC VSC light would also be on when I hit CDL, so all three lights on in a row, is this true for others? That is no longer the case after the PT kit. Now with CDL locked and the VSC off in 4HI I still have TRAC interfering with my power. I would like to be able to turn TRAC off entirely but not off for good since my wife drives the truck too and TRAC is hooked into ABS and I'd like that on for most daily driving. Having TRAC off when you're in RWD is fun, the rear end can get totally wild.
Solution, pull the ABS switch on the brake MC. There are 2 or three sensors/switches on the MC and reservoir, the ABS is one of them. When this switch is pulled the ABS light comes on (so no ABS) the TRAC VSC is on (so no TRAC at all, obviously because TRAC is tied to ABS) and the VSC light is on so you can go sideways and the truck won't interfere. Of course I don't want to be under my hood every time I want to do donuts so all I need to do is splice in a switch to the ABS sensor and run a toggle into the cabin so I can flip that ABS whenever I want. I read this somewhere else, I can't remember where so I can't give proper credit where it is due. But I did test this just now in a packed snow parking lot and with the ABS switch pulled the truck has zero electronic interference, it's purely mechanical and you can slid it sideways, donuts, burn your tire, etc.

Maybe this is due to the PT kit, maybe it's just something wrong with my truck, or maybe I'm entirely wrong and it's supposed to just be VSC and CDL and the TRAC VSC is not supposed to come on. Thoughts on that appreciated. I'm minimally mechanically inclined, I know just enough about my LC to be dangerous.

I've posted this in another good thread on 100 Series PT and AISIN vs the AVM Hubs so this is redundant but in case others aren't following that thread here's the follow up. I'm an idiot. The VSC TRAC light is a warning light. However, I think the work around to turn off the TRAC with the ABS switch is still a good option. Anyone going PT might find this interesting to try. Any thoughts on if this would have any negative impacts on the truck other than the ABS being disabled?
Most people here complain about the AVM hubs leaking (water in) because they are not properly waterproof and after a good river crossing, the hub manufactures advise a strip down and re-grease. Marks also confirm this.
