I think I need to replace my parking brake shoes.

I've adjusted them to spec using the factory procedure (star wheels first, then fine tune the nut under the cupholder), and they don't hold the vehicle against the engine at anything above idle unless I crank the hell out of the lever (well beyond the 45 foot lb 5-7 clicks spec). I might just barely pass my state safety inspection this year (appointment Friday) like this. If not, I'm doing rear shoes this weekend.

Any preferences other than OEM? Generally speaking I prefer OEM unless it is an upgrade to a component, but didn't know if the extra cost is needed for this application.

OEM are sold separately adding up to ~$213 list/~$120 from discount sites. Centric are ~$26 for a set of four.

I use this procedure:

I just ordered a set of Centric parking brake shoes and a Centric parking brake hardware kit, for good measure (I hate being in the middle of a project and having something lost/break and not being able to finish it). I'll report back if I have any issues with the install.

I think I need to do the same project. I’ve adjusted the park brake but it doesn’t hold the truck on a hill (or my driveway) in neutral. Something isn’t right.

Our trucks aren't light to begin with, throw on bigger tires and all that extra weight of bumpers, etc. that's a good amount of force playing on those parking shoes to hold the vehicle.

agreed and why its even more important that the park break works. Think of the pressure on the parking pawl if the parking break isn't doing its job.

Agreed. I've been constantly adjusting mine. Even recently I thought they were completely toast and went to swap them out to see the parking shoes still have a little over half life left.

I've noticed it goes out of adjustment pretty quickly.

Hey @CharlieS , done this yet? I need to do same and am having a hard time not going OEM pads (probably not rational). Just looking for feedback on the pads you went with.

I have the parking brake pads in the garage, but decided to replace all the rotors and pads too (long road trip to Moab next month). The rotors just shipped today. So I'll probably do this job next weekend or one night next week. The centric parking brake pads look like very high quality parts. Centric makes Tundra TRD brakes for Toyota. Just sayin'.

Done yet? :bounce:

Where did you order the Centric parts from? Got a list with part numbers?

Yes, I installed them, and they work as designed.
