I know a few of you have redone the parking brake lately. Whats the cost on the rebuild kit run? Mine works ok right now but I might open it up and check it out when I get back. So I'd like to know what to set aside for that day incase its not a good day.

I need a kit too Richard. Let me know what you end up ordering and from where.

I'll probably go with ralph hayes toyota and get our discount. I believe David got his there last yr.

Use after-market kit.

I got mine from RHT, but....it only works for later models.
Alan Hardin to the RESCUE....as usual. What you'll need is the
kit for updating from MAF or SOR. The shoes for a late model don't quite fit without the little change over cam deal. It's still a cheap repair. About $30.
Be prepared to grind a bit on the shoes.....like you sometimes have to do
on the drum brake shoes for a good fit. The "tang" can be a bit too thick.
Man, I LOVE my mondo hold parking/emergency brake. It saved my bacon
not too long ago coming down my driveway when a brake line burst.
That brake isn't just for parking! There is a reason it is required to be
in working order at ALL TLCA events. For your's and other's safe wheelin'.

What years are the kit from RHT for? In other words what do they consider late model?

Go with the kits from aftermarket. Check your SOR or MAF books.
I know ya got those books...what real Cruierhead doesn't have THOSE
wish books. :grinpimp:
RHT shows the parking brake kit fits ALL....it doesn't.

Yeah til I open it and mess with it I wont know if I need anything anyway. Might just be a little out of adjustment. It'll hold fine on relatively flat areas just on steep grades its a no go.

Dang, just turn the adjusting nut!

Adjustment is sooooo simple. 10mm wrench and turn the nut.
You could do it in 10 minutes. That ought to tell ya if you
need fixing.
Most slip due to rear engine seal leak. If you see goo dripping on the drum
new shoes etc will not fix the problem. Not a bad idea to replace the seal while you are in there making repairs to the parking/emergency brake.

Real men don't need parking brakes. You can find them in Forrest Lawn but don't expect a lot of rebuttal.
