I am in the process of painting my frame off restore of my fj40. I have epoxy primered the tub sides, engine compartment, dash area, under dash area. I am going to shoot the high build primer on the sides of the tub and front of cowling. Do I need to shoot the high build primer under and behind the dash also? Seems overkill and if I do I have to sand the high build primer down under the dash for the final coat to stick? I know this is probably a real dumb question but this is the first paint job I have done.

Only if you want to spend hours under there sanding. High build primer is intended to smooth surfaces, and in doing so, most of it should be sanded off. It isnt a protective coating like epoxy. If it were me, I'd epoxy and finish out with color and clear. If there are small repair areas, you could hit them with a little bit and sand locally.

I sprayed mine with trunk paint. It has a speckled textured appearance.
