I am going to paint the flares on my white 80 with trim black.

Does not need to be perfect as I am sure the first trip out, I will scratch them.

Clean, sand, use prep-all and paint. No primer.

What should be the final grit on the sand paper before painting?

If they are chipped or scratched i would sand them with 180 or 220 to feather them out .The i would get a red scotch brite pad from local pant store and scrub them with COMET not ajax because it leaves an oily film. Let em dry and paint them black. Good luck

Well, I used 100 to rough em' up then steel wool to smooth em out a bit.

Washed with dish soap then cleaned with prep-all.

Sprayed with SEM trim black.

You can see some very light scratches in the sunlight.

oh well. You guys gonna call me on it when you see me?

I used Herculiner on my flares and I am happy with the results. I also did the bottom section of my truck while I was at it. I got new flare gaskets from Cruiser Dan because the old ones were a little messed up and they were grey. I went with black flare gaskets and I like the look.

Just because I know you are all riveted to my thread...

I used Dupli-Color bed liner in the spray can instead of Trim Black.

Looks great and hides many more sins than paint alone.

bed liner would hide 50 grit scartches btw I never paint over anything less then 320

I used the duplicolor on my 60. It's tough stuff from what I can see. I used a whole gallon spraying it with an undercoat gun. Rockers, rear 1/4 panels and rear wheel wells.

How's the duplicolor liner holding up guys? Found it for a decent price (I think, like $35 a gallon) at Princess Auto tonight and I need something to line the bottom half of my 62 and maybe do the floor.
