So after about 7 years or so of being blacked out, all my plastic parts that had that damn chrome plate on them are faded and the paint (which was primed before application) is chipping away. Hopefully soon I can redo the job, but have any of you guys found a good paint or paint/primer combo that'll avoid sun fading and actually adhere well to the chrome? I'd hate to have to slowly peel it all off and fight with that for God knows how long it'd take.

I know exactly what you mean. I went thru the same heartache with the grille on my '62. I used SEM Trim Black. It lasted a couple of years, then started to peel off the chrome.

I would call a sand blasting place, see if they have any suggestions on getting the chrome off. Maybe soda blasting?

Scuff the plasti-chrome with a red then a green scotchbrite pad. Tac cloth the part then coat with an adhesion promoter/plastic primer. Add couple coats of your favorite paint and it should last for a good long time.

I've done the sand, scuff, tack, prime, sand, prime, sand paint (three coats) with Krylon. Looks awesome for a couple years, but it faded FAST afterwards. I'll give the Eastwood stuff a try, and see what they recommend for something that is more resistant to sun fade.

For plastic chrome parts, I would think it best to not go with a lot of coats. Actually works against longevity. Plastic flexes and more prone to chipping. Maybe a additive for urethane would help
