I brought the 'cruiser inside today to dry out. I'm getting set to pull the soft-top and the top half of my doors and do some touch-up work. I have about 6 small (1" diamter") spots of bubbled paint/surface rust in the door jams and where the two halves of the doors meet. I'm going to get a few spray bombs made at the local auto supply house and fix them.
I figured once I brushed the rust away, I'd use a rust-converting primer, then some very light Bondo and then the 045 Toyota White and clear-coat, rubbing down between coats.
I'm not aware of any through-rust, though the holes at the bottom of the driver's door, where the rubber trim is inserted, seem to have enlarged with some corrosion. I may weld them closed and re-drill.
Here's where I'd like you opinion, the top halves of the doors and the windshield frame are black, and I thought they might look better painted white, leaving only the soft-top black....thoughts?
Finally, in a weird turn
, my left rear wheel suddenly started shedding it's paint...it comes off with the pressure of the garden hose now. I know how to etch-prime and re-paint...but does this happen for a reason? Perhaps a dragging brake or something? Maybe a piss-poor job to begin with.
