I've got a 97 LX that my wife jackknifed w/ a small trailer. I've got a buddy w/ a body shop so I got him to repair the rear quarter panel and molding. Since most of the molding had lost most of its clearcoat he just repainted all of it.
He sprayed according to the Lexus color code. I trust this guy and I know he is telling me the truth. Problem is, I can't stand the color. It was what I consider tan. It is now what I consider a tan w/ gay pink-purple tint :princess: which is more obvious up close and especially at dusk or dawn.

He agrees w/ me, as a matter of fact the bastard finds it quite funny. He has agreed to repaint it for the price of the paint, which leads to my question.

What color should I paint it ? I have a few in mind, but I would like some input.

Please move if this is chat, I just wanted to get 80 specific imagination.

Hmm... i dont see anything diff from the pics that you posted, or maybe you take pics much more closer for us to be able to notice...

There is no difference, they were both taken after the paint job, and your right it is hard to tell.
I guess my point is if you could go w/ any color, what would it be ?

Mine's black and I love it! I often think that if I were ever to get it repainted, I would like an olive-ish army green. There's a color I saw on an Xterra called "canteen." I think it's a cool color!!

Were it mine, I'd go white. Mine is currently Emerald Green, but am going to change to white. By the way, if you want a quality match go to a BASF Glasurit shop. BASF is for the most part used by nearly every OEM builder in the world including Toyota. Most Glasurit shops will have around 8,000 actual sprayout cards for an exact match, along with a variety of additional tools to provide you with an accurate match on the repair.

As far as your "buddy" in the bodyshop business.......as a professional he should be able to match your OEM color or his paint supplier or the factory rep from the paint company. If he is unable ot match the color, your buddy has a fair amount of high end resources available with his jobber and paint manufacturer. Bad matches on a high quality vehicle such as a LC/LX are just unacceptable. Just my 2 cents. :) :)

I gotta say that I think black looks awesome for the 5 minutes a month that you can keep it clean. I have a black 4Runner, and it sucks always having to maintain the thing. Maybe it has something to do with living in WI. I will never own another black vehicle.

Now that Xterra sage color...That is sweet!

ditto on a sage green...

Just so that we're on the same page...
I'm only talking about painting the molding & bumpers.

Its funny you guys should mention the Xterra green, that was my thinking before this post.
However, I'm still open.

ciaeyes -- He did match it. I just liked the faded color, w/o the clearcoat, better than what came out of the factory.

Keep em comin

Dark Green is what I plan on doing mine. But Green is my color. Black is too common nowadays.....well actually around here I see alot of Black SUV's. Just really depends on what you see. And what YOU like and want. I mean come on you have a color or two you want. Just pick one and be happy

Crappy -- I'm very insecure & desperately seek the approval of others. Besides my wife hid my opinion from me & I can't find it.

Just f'n w/ ya. I'm just hopin somebody might open my eyes to something I haven't seen.

here is the same color, stock, not repainted
