So who drives with a surf or paddle board sticking out the open rear window and do you get exhaust fumed ? My wife cannot manhandle her board onto the roof without the occasional mishap. ( I know how to trick the open window alarm ). Ed

We carry kayaks that way down the street to the harbor. Drove one kayak home that way for about 45 min when we purchased it without a problem. Also completed may HD trips with lumber out the hatch. The opening glass was key for us purchasing the 460 and was one of the main reasons we never got a 470. It was a critical item for us coming from BMW wagons. You eventually tune out the beeping for the open hatch.

Are there any issues with the struts holding the window open failing at speed?

Im coming from a 5th gen 4Runner and being able to have that back window open is key for awesome airflow through the truck in the summer. Although I would occasionally get some exhaust flow back into the car, it was never enough to be a real problem.

If you only need partial open ventilation this option works too

Although that particular gadget wouldn't work with a kayak or lumber. But it's cool if you want ventilation and still be able to lock your rig! I don't think it'd be very easy to cut/defeat that little bar from the outside.

I love the Idea. I will make one for my self with few modifications. it would be perfect for sleeping in the vehicle while camping.

If you plan on any sustained higher speeds or bumps, the glass/window will fall. I had this open for a 10 mile ride on my 10' and the struts couldnt stop the wind from pushing them down (50+ mph). They are 10 y.o. struts but newer ones might not be an issue. I'll try this weekend with my wifes 16' and see if it stays open.

Get wife an inflatable paddle board, been using one for almost four years now and I love it.

My wife is on the lake frequently during summer months and knowing her there would be a partially deflated wet kayak along with a bicycle taking up the whole rear of the vehicle. Right now there are two sets of X/C skis and a set of downhill skis plus all the ski poles in the back. The boots would be in there also if she didn't bring them in to stay warm. She's a gear junkie but not a gear organizer. We talked about a small trailer but that creates a parking problem for her. Board out the window is best for her, the water is only a few miles away in most cases. Ed

Haha, I can relate, I had me one of those in my past life haha.
