My friend Todd Oldenburg sold me his nice 96 FJ80- my wife likes it and I'm gonna cut loose with the 55 I acquired a few months back. Original for sale blurb here: For Sale: - 1974 FJ55 in PA/USA
Price is $3700 and that's what I have in it. It is currently inspected in PA until October 2016. It runs well and Richie described it pretty accurately. Yes it has rust in a lot of places but is structurally sound and in my opinion ready to provide a few more years of service for someone. My intention was to drive it just the way it is, cosmetically anyway. I haven't done much more than install some modern shoulder harnesses up front. original front seat belts and shoulder straps are included. I cleaned the truck up and have been driving it.
Known issues- a few of them. It occasionally will not idle, usually it idles fine. The carb has an electric choke that seems to be working properly. Why it idles poorly on occasion is unknown to me at this time. The shimmy at 45 MPH that Richie mentioned is not tire related- the tires although old have lots of tread and seem to work fine. No leaks there either. The shimmy comes when the truck goes over a hard bump in the road- might need the wheel bearings adjusted or something like that but i haven't looked at it. When the clutch is released there is a noise that Richie told me has been there all the years he owned the truck. Sounds to me like it might be the input bearing on the ranger but it hasn't been a problem for me. The parking brake is inoperable- the bellcrank on the firewall hits the rear of the passenger side valve cover on the V8 engine and will need some attention. It was like this all the time Richie owned the 55.
Interior is pretty nice, better than most. Stereo works well- there is an amp in it and a sub woofer in the rear. Seats are comfy. All gauges seem to work. Speedo works and heater works. All windowes go up and down (including the tailgate window). Doors and hood close as they should. The torsion bar for the tailgate is broken and the tailgate requires some muscle power to lift and close. Tail window weatherstripping isn't in too bad a shape. The Ranger overdrive works well, as does the transmission and transfer case. Clutch works fine. The ARB compressor works fine and the rear locker engages and disengages as it should. A few recnt pictures attached. Clear title in my name. here's a chance to get into a running, locked, land cruiser cheaply, buy it and drive it. Best to email me shmukter@pa.metrocast.net.
