Got this on the 4runner today. Looks like its secondary air injection system? Turns out it's a well documented problem on the Tundra and Sequoia 4.7L, enough so that Toyota warrants the repair up to 10 yrs/ 150,000 miles. The problem is, it's a $3k fix and they don't warranty it on the 4runner. Going to call Toyota corporate tomorrow to open a case. I'll keep it all updated here.

I have never heard of this. Do you have a reference thread/more details?

Talked to Toyota today, they say the reason they aren't covering this issue on the 4runners is because the pump is located in a different spot than the tundra, and is less susceptible to water intrusion.

So my options are...
1) $3,000 to fix it so it will continue to pump clean air into the exhaust for 20 seconds on cold starts only, and keep the EPA happy. Not sure this is a job I can do myself, so that's shop prices.
2) Keep clearing the code and live with it, it's not critical and won't damage anything.
3) $2,500 for a junkyard motor with half the miles. (Not going to buy a junkyard motor, just wanted to throw that in there for comparison. Less money, much younger motor.)

Hi - any further developments in getting Toyota to cover this? I am going through a similar issue with a GX470 with 80k miles and Lexus denied coverage. Very frustrating given the obvious design defect and the cost of the parts from Toyota/Lexus. Thanks!
