Overland Spring Wheeling: Death Valley and Utah

Wanted to see what kind of interest there is in this group for doing an Overland trip through I don't know where! I'm thinking late March, early April time frame and plan on being gone for a whole week. I'm guessing we'll be camping and moving daily unless we find a spot where we want to stay longer than a night. Some spots require a day hike to check out the area in depth and enjoy what it has to offer. It is nice not to have to drive every day.

I'm planning on taking the 4Runner so I'm hoping not to have to boulder crawl if possible! Extra fuel and water will be required by all, along with a decent set of tires. Depending on where we go, we may have to air down and air up now and then.

Some possible destinations:
- Arizona Strip - Toroweap overlook along with other cool spots. Weather may be a factor due to the elevation
- Death Valley - check out the spring flower bloom

Utah - go wheeling and then end up/swing through Moab around CM'17 event May 2-7

Last two weeks in March work best for me, after Spring break. Death Valley has been on my wish list for quite some time.

We had Matt, John F., Ron G. and Jim/Donna showed up. it was good times discussing wheeling trips as usual.

The potential for the DV trip is 3/25/17 - 4/2/17. Leave on a Sat, return home on the following week Sunday. Hopefully we'll see the spring flower bloom in DV and not hit too much bad weather. However, bad weather is always a possibility in DV during that time of the year.

The potential date for an UT trip, Lockhart basin is 4/28/17 - 5/1/17. Cruise moab starts on 5/2/17. We'll go from South to North on the Lockhart Basin trail and exit through the Hoorah Pass. This leads you to Moab, then we can check out Moab. I'll peel off and head home while others can attend CM'17.

Ali, I was thinking about doing something similar maybe closer to home. I know some cool spots to check out petroglyphs and ruins along the way to dropping into beach side camping on Navajo Lake. Late summer would be ideal for water to warm up and enjoy swimming, fishing, kayaking etc. You could then push into CO wheel and camp and come back through Durango or farther east hitting Red River and enchanted circle

Jeremy, I might be interested in that. got the wife a kayak for x-mas. and we need some fishing. if you are as good at that as hunting, it will be a great time.

I may be interested in tagging along. I'm back in Las Vegas so could meet up somewhere out here. I attended one of your potluck meetings in Tijeras a few years back. If anyone needs a base or help while out here too just let me know.
