OK guys, I suck and haven't posted the pics I said I would from various rides / trips. So, when my 1 gig memory card ran out and wouldn't take any more pictures at the Gorges State Park ride, I figured it was time to get it done. Had to get a new PC first since the old one blew and was also out of memory, but it's all good now.

So here they are, a few good ones from various rides over the past few months. I'll just post them here together, all attached.

Enjoy. :D

Ok Andy!!!

That's enough!! Stop the torture, Congress has banned it!!! MY (until I sold it to YOU) black 97 FJ-80 has never looked better or had more fun. Oh, parting is such sweet sorrow . . .

The 98 UZJ-100 I replaced it with doesn't even come close, and I now know I must replace the 98's tires with something other than Michelin so that I can at least see my 97 in its natural environment. ( I also need to figure out how to get an "Avatar") . . .

CURSE YOU RED BARRON, . . ah. . . I mean Andy!!

Thanks guys. Yeah, definitely have the bug. I am heading out in the next few days to do some recon a little northwest of here on some old jeep roads. Got the bug bad...

LOL David!!! The 80 has been a worthy and able addition to the family. I'd offer to sell it back to you but I'm afraid you'd take me up on it!! :D Dude, I STILL have the LTX's on it and always have. I've got big plans though. In the next 30-60 days, it's undergoing some MAJOR surgery. Won't even look the same. Can't wait, I am jazzed. :grinpimp:

Don't sell that 100 short, it can definitely hold it's own. It's an awesome ride and is more capable than most of the old school guys think. Join Tad and I convincing these guys that a 100 (while cush and comfy) is still a Cruiser and will go about anywhere...except out of an icy ditch on Trail 1, right JP, Chuck and John???? :grinpimp: :flipoff2:

I'm taking my 98 on the expedition ride in March - saw you were planning on going. Maybe we can have a few of them out there!!

Andy,

Yep, I would buy it back, but I would also buy back my 93 and that GT Opel I totaled in college. Yep, I plan on doing the Expedition in March and will probably bring the 98 instead of the 82: more "lay down" room in the back for sleeping. I will probably have to replace the LTX's on the 98 before then, because they now have 50k on them. Thinking about BFG, but I have to drive the 98 to work every day. Any thoughts Brother Andy?

Tires... As you've probably seen that's an endless debate on Mud and everyone has an opinion.

On my 2000 I still have the LTX's and probably will stay that way since it won't see lots of off-road duty any time soon. It doesn't seem that most owners like them but as far as road manners go, I think they're hard to beat. Certainly not an off-road tire, but I've had my 80 (with stock LTX's) in some pretty dicey situations (read: Uwharrie, pouring rain, slick rocks and slippery clay) and they've been adequate. Not saying they outperformed the other more aggressive tires in the group, but they got me back to the road without body damage. Ask Concretejungle - he's had some good laughs and plenty of comments about the LTX's. :D I think the biggest drawback for most folks is $$$, they aren't cheap but they'll last.

When I need new tires for the 2000, I will upgrade from the stock 275/70r16 to a 285/75/r16. Fills out the wheel wells better and looks better aesthetically IMO. No worries about rubbing or bumping either. They'll fit and perform fine.

I know guys that run the BFG's and like them but they are a little more $$ and not ideal for daily road time IMO. There are cheaper alternatives for a more aggressive tire that is going to see daily road use and quicker wear as a result.

2 of the most popular more aggressive tire alternatives for the 100 (keeping in mind some semblance of budget and road manners) are the Yokohama Geolander AT+II and the Nitto Terra Grappler. Both have acceptable road manners but give you a more aggressive tread pattern for your off pavement endeavors. And, they are both reasonably priced.

I have the Nittos on my 98 and really like them. I have the 295/75r16's with an OME lift and I am happy with the setup and performance on road and off.

If your 98 doesn't have a lift and you're not getting one any time soon, you can't go wrong with either the Yokohama or Nitto in the 285/75r16.

FYI - I recently bought a spare NTG for my 98 and I paid $120 out the door. I think the YG's may even be a bit less expensive but don't have any real life feedback on those...

Of course, you could always do like Tad and throw some insane 34" Swampers on there and call it a day!! :D He has the luxury of having two sets of tires and rims...

Is that clear as Mud??? :D
