Going with the wifey to Ouray, Colorado second weekend in March. Gonna be for our anniversary, but it would be sweet to hit some trails while we were in the area. Any suggestions?

I know there is the Imogen Pass that connects Ouray with Telluride, but it was closed last year, and I am willing to bet it will be this time too.

So what else is there?

Rory,
All of the high passes in that area will be closed until June (earliest) or mid-July (normal). The local jeep places should be able to tell you what trails are open. Mid March might bring a heart-pumping ride on the main highway from Durango to Silverton to Ouray.

Yeah, take your skis if you want some outdoor action. We drove the passes from Ouray to Silverton to Durango on New Years Eve and it was no fun. Lotsa ice, no guardrail...

Last year we drove up in my 4runner. All I can say is sketchy. The truck did well, but it made me nervous not having any barrier before the huge drop.
We'll definitely bring the snowboards, but we are fair-weather boarders. ;p
Unless there is fresh snow, I dont like to spend the money for lift tickets.:crybaby:

We'll be heading up there starting on July 19 for a few days to meet up with other folks and do some trails. Plan on making another trip up there if you want to drive around w/o snow!

Ali,
Who is we? Can I be a we?

I remember at one of the meetings Mike mentioned an annual club run to Colorado. Is that still a possibility?

yes, it's a definite. we have done it for several years in a row now. a few possibilities are open. i just heardfrom James (O2bein4low) that he knows of a route through the sanddunes to over by Mt Blanca. we will probably start planning it in June, but set the date around April or May.

Usually, some folks from the Lone Star Cruiser Club show up. This time, some friends from Chicago with LRs and LCs may show up and some mud members from CO and Kansas show up as well. I say the more the merrier! Shoot me a PM with your email addy.

We will end up visiting Silverton few times this year since we're so close.

Try Last Dollar Road, it goes from HWY 62(west of Ridgeway) south and ends near Telluride,in the summer it is passable with two wheel drive. I'm betting there will be quite a bit of snow.
I'm sure the road from Ouray going towards Imogene Pass will be a fun ride. Check with the locals at the car wash, there they will be washing off the mud and snow, with up to date info.
