I know about Expedition Portal. I know about Craigslist, and the various car selling websites, but does anybody else have any sources to find 100 series LCs for sale? The 2003 Sequoia I bought just isn't cutting it anymore and I gotta get back into to awesomeness that is the 100!

Have you tried ih8mud.com?

In Utah we have KSL.com - which has a lot of cars listed. I think it is better than the local Craigslist.

First off, you're a quitter and I am disappointing myself by pandering and replying here but I have a soft spot since I see you mending your ways and getting back where you belong. I'm just gonna say what all the other readers are thinking and that is, "you should have never left in the first place."

Now to the question at hand. It's difficult to beat Craigslist for multiple cities. Once it's in the hands of a dealer, the price has just been marked up at least 7%. My next step would be just a google search for used cars by certain zip codes, and primarily autotrader.

Tell me your willingness to travel geographically and I'll even look around here.

But the bigger point is, get as far away from ih8mud members and land cruiser aficionados as you can. Your goal is to find the soccer mom or suburbanite that has kept regular maintenance, garage-kept and never smoked in the vehicle. While it's not a bad outcome, I don't have the intention of ever willingly buying an LC from a mud member.

They're too smart:)

Aaron!!!!!! I think you are going to have a hard time shopping if you are looking for exactly what you had. Follow the guidance from above and look for a soccer mom rig or a rig that was holed up at a guest house. Then you can start building it up how you like. You had a sweet rig, but consider taking small steps to get back there. Good luck!!!!! @aaronrules

Found my old folks owned "condo car" in Naples,FL on ft Myers CL ....

Getting rid of my Lexus is one of the few things in this life that I regret. It was sweet and I practically gave it away! I'm on the fence about finding a turn key vs. building one myself, but you make a good point. The stock old lady rides are out there...

I read your post last night and one of my kids admitted they'd be ok with a used LX for a first car. 90 minutes of internet searching later, I had found 2-3 good choices in the 10-14k range.

I've enjoyed upgrading my LC so much, it will be difficult to NOT buy another LC/LX.

That they are...my two LX's were owned by an older couple and and an older lady...both stock, one from CA and one from WA. Both are becoming big projects, so I found a third one here in OR...211K, fanatically maintained at Kuni Lexus in Portland, 2001, no nav, pristine undercarriage, $8900...owned by an old guy. Going to use it as my daily driver until the other two are built and done, then will sell it.

I like Autotrader for the ease of looking at LC's and LX's, but all mine have been bought through Craigslist.

I just did some research on the stuff that I would need to buy in order to build up a LC/LX to what I had before and would want in my next one. It is easily over 10K in accessories! For this reason, it seems like a good idea to find one that is already built as people are not asking for full retail prices on the accessories they have installed.

Does this seem like the right logic?:

Say I find the right stock LX/LC at around $10,000 (This would get me a 1999-2001 stocker with easily over 150K miles). I could easily assume that in order to accessorize with lift/suspension, front and rear bumpers, sliders, skids gets me to over $7K. This is before wheels and tires!!! And it is also before the "fluff" type accessories like second battery, roof rack, drawers etc.

So my thinking is this...If I find a LC/LX with the what I call basic upgrades/accessories installed (lift/suspension, bumpers, sliders wheels/tires and maybe skids) at probably a 50% cost of brand new, wouldn't this be smarter?

The idea of building something from the start to make it "all mine" is great. I wouldn't have a problem doing the work either as I find it cathartic. But I also know that piecing together a build will end up being more costly in the long run. It will also take forever to get it done as each step would be at least a thousand dollars a pop!

Someone either slap some sense into me, or give me an amen.

If it is built well and not cobbled together and has the stuff you want then it is a much better deal. I have way more into my truck than I could sell it for, so if I ever sell the buyer is going to get a great deal...

I think it varies wildly on the mods and the pricing. It's a situation by situation basis. I bought my last 100 with a lift, 33's and sliders and it was a '99 with 200k on it so it fit the bill for what I wanted it for. The lift, 33" toyos with MUCH tread left in them and sliders were basically free so yes you are on the right line of thinking there that it will save you money.

Then there's the flipside, are those really the sliders you want? Are those really the tires you want? In my case they were fine but it is nice to shop for every single mod. No doubt that comes at a premium. The other thing is that if it's been modded, it's probably been used. That doesn't have to mean trashed, but it means you need to look closer at areas like ball joints, CV's UCA's and that kind of stuff on top of the T-Belt etc.

No regrets on the 2 vehicles I've bought off of 'mud though.
