I was wondering if anyone in the Valley has a used computer they may me willing to let go for cheap. Our home computer is way old and slow (Pentium III 700mhz) and still runs 98 :crybaby:. All this time I was mostly using my one from work but with the lay off that's not happening anymore.

Basically if it's using XP, has office, and a network card I'd consider it. It's going to be used for internet mostly.

I rather give some $$$ to a club member before someone off the street.

Howdy! I went thru this about 1.5 yeas ago. I picked up a Dell Optiplex GX 750 from a business office that upgraded their junk. It didn't have much memory, so I had to had a bigger drive. Lasted til July, and it crashed. I ran out to Costco and bought an Emachine for under $350. Works OK for my limited needs. You can Have the Dell for free if you can fix it. I already pulled my extra hard drive to save mi pix. John

might take you up on this...rather go with a working one if possible. Any idea of what's wrong with it? Does it still have primary HD with XP?

I've sold cheap systems on Craigs list...that said you can put together a cheap system with new components. These guys have cheap boxes...like $50 cheap...they are lease returns.

Howdy! I think this had Windows 2000 Pro on it. The original HD is still in it. It is pretty small because this was in a business with a big server. It just locked up one day for no obvious reason. I was running AVG on it, which was safe protection for a long time, I thought. When I rebooted it, I just got the black screen with the bad new message on it. John

I have a spare PC I'm not using... HP with an AMD Athlon 3200, 1GB RAM, CD-ROM, one of those memory card adapter thingies that let you plug in any memory card, onboard sound and network card, 2 firewire ports, 7 USB ports, etc.

Let me know...

Mark, thanks for dumbing it down for us computer-challenged types...

Actually, getting a computer from a guy that makes computers his profession is probably a good thing.

;)

I know you are looking for a used computer, but this one can be considered as cheap, and new. Some store has marked their price down to $298. Unfortunately, I don't know which store still has it.
