Hi everybody: I'm fixing a couples of small rusty spots on my 60 and I need a gallon of original color paint, does anybody knows where i can buy some?
I'm having trouble finding it.
Thanks

Take the paint code over to Gladwin Paint on 290/Springdale Rd. They can mix up what ever you need and can also do rattle cans.

I've also used Gladwin. Tasco, on south Congress should also have what you need.

Tasco has a location up North also, and has a electronic paint matching gismo they can bring out to your car to match the paint.

Not to hijack this thread but, how well does the rattle can stuff match? How many coats does it take? I replaced my rockers and rear qrtrs and just want something to cover the primer for the time being. Also, what does this spray cost? There is a shop here in san antonio that gets 30 bux per can and according to the rep it will take about 4 cans just to spray my rockers. seems kinda excessive to me.

Color match will depend on the color and age of the paint you're trying to match. I've had very good luck with rattle can matching, but in relatively inconspicuous places.

I had some rattle cans made up at a local PPG auto paint store several years ago. IIRC they charged $20 a can for 6+ cans. It takes a lot of coats for decent coverage. Maybe 4 coats?

If you're looking at 4 cans @$30/can for rockers only and also need to do rear quarters, it seems like you'd be better off going to MAACO or Econopaint and paying them to do the painting. I had Econopaint do a hood and top on a Celica for me (I did all the prep) and they only charged $120. Admittedly that was 5+ years ago.

What color is your truck? if it is your basic red, white, etc., Tractor Supply has tractor paint for $35/gal + $15 for the hardener. We used this paint (red) for my son's truck and I liked it enough to get a gal of white for my 60. for spray gun, I bought a $15 gun at Harbor Freight with very good results...

If your truck would happen to be olive green (brown) for the fj40, i have an unused gal + reducers that i need to get rid of.

Hmm. That Olive Green paint is tempting. That's one of my favorite FJ40 colors.

Is olive brown the same as baby$hit brown? I tried to find a 40 in that color before the rustbucket popped up. Still one of the best OEM 40 colors IMO.

Could you paint the entire 40 with one gallon of paint?

If yes, I'd be inclined to go for it.

40 Colors

Speaking of paint colors, John Holmaas told me several years ago that he wanted to take a poser photo of his 40, Yoopers, and mine side by side. All are '82's. He wanted to call it Catsup, Mustard, and Pickle Relish. I doubt those 3 trucks will ever be in the same place at the same time, but we could stage a similar photo with Kelly's, Casey's, and my trucks. They just wouldn't be the same year. Here's pics of John and Sean's 40's...two of the best looking stock trucks I've seen.
