Received a full complement of keys on Friday: one black master key, one metal master key, and one valet key. All cut from the code I found hand written in the owners manual back in April 1994.

Replaced the worn out black key that would no longer operate the glovebox or rear hatch, and took some wiggling to lock the drivers door. Gave the old keys to my 6yr old daughter to play with.

new keys are sharp and actually engage the drivers door and ignition cylinders better! a couple shots of graphite spray into the hatch cylinder and it gave way, and was able to turn it for probably the first time in 20+ years.

and I may be the first customer to receive the leather key fob? very nice touch! and the smell of rich leather is sweeeeeeet.

I watched your YouTube video on this. Had to find my old lovely key from my 81 hj60. I love it! It does have some use,and a lovely patina. Seems like it's softer than anything else.
When I tried it in my other cars, I did bend it a bit, and could bend it back with my pinky.
And to my surprise, it works on the 61 as well! Haha!
Super cool that it's cold spec with the wide body, give more leverage on frozen door locks
Tech question, what would be the best lube for our locks?
Here in cold spec I'm having trouble all the time no matter what I lube with, and have to take everything apart now and then to clean out cylinders and keep them moving. With and without lube, they always end up suck. Especially he rear hatch on the 60.

I have had the worst time trying to source a new key blank that is the same one that land cruisers originally shipped with without having to buy a new ignition cylinder or whole new lock set. Ive already got a new metal master key and metal valet key, but the one with a rubber head seems impossible. It looks like this:
View attachment 1738824 I've gotten really close, as the smaller toyotas of the time had the same style key but instead of the left side of the key blade being shaved down, the right side is shaved down and that wont work. So does anyone have a part number or can anyone get it for me?
