original 78 fj40 spare tire carrier??

ok well aquired a nearly stock 78 fj40 and other then needing front seats for it i was wondering if someone could tell me what kind of rear spare tire holder came on the 78s??? have a vbar style swing away that came with it and just want to confirm that this is the style that should be on it for original specs.

same as mine, im a little scared to have my 33x12.5 spare on it, rumor has it that it might be a little too heavy for those carriers

The carriers will hold up fine. The body is what gets tweaked from the weight.

thanks for the help guys thats the one i have that came in the back of the 40 just didnt see a point where that would latch to the vehicle when it swings close but maybe i over looked it. thanks

i assume it should be fine with the hard top on, but when its off and i have the spare on the carrier is when i will run into some body damage right?

Latches onto piece #5, which is bolted to the rear crossmember. It'll hold a 33" tire fine. The tire will probably need to be spaced out at the bolting flange to fit on the carrier. The tire will also hang out beyond the driver-side sheet metal, so it can get hung up on trees and rocks along the trail.
