So I got a quote today from a local welder and I wanted to know what some of you thought...
$1000 to add in metal plate from the halfway point to the ends of the rails. I'm only doing this to make it safe and have peace of mind that its road worthy NOT to be able to wheel with it.

What are your plans with the truck?
What do you intend to use it for?

For me I wouldn't be willing to put that type of money into a truck that couldn't be wheeled.
I'm assuming from previous conversations that this is your secondary vehicle?

Yea it's secondary but I love my truck and it's the only one I have for now so I want to keep it. Which means I want to feel more comfortable driving her. I'm scouting out Craigslist for another sweet deal like someone at the mtg said he'd found... And I wouldn't have the work done till Aug anyway, IF I decide to. But I wanted to see what some of you thought. Honestly, I don't think I'd ever have a deep enough pocket to dig from to truely make her wheel worthy. But road worthy is possibly in my means.

It doesn't take a lot of money to make a Landcruiser trail worthy.
Seen a stock 60 and a stock 80 do some tough trails (for a moderate run) and perform really well.

You could always keep your eyes open for another 60 and use your brown one for parts so your truck never really dies in spirit.
There are a lot of 60s and 62s on Craig's going fit short money.

Agreed about keeping mine for parts but the ones I'm seeing on CL aren't all that cheap. 8k is a bit much for me right now. We'll see. Like I said, I appreciate hearing others opinions.

I think that is over priced and wouldn't pay that much. You should give your truck a lot more credit. A little rust never hurt. Another option is to have the local technical school work on it. All you have to do is pay for supplies. All there work is overseen by professionals and is inspected. They do jobs like this for real world expierence.

I forgot about them! I went to one for my nursing license training. Thanks Will! That and my neighbors kid goes to one. And I gotta say, I did some perusing thru mud and saw some rusty rear rails far worse... Mine are really nasty but it's still just metal.
It's summer tho.... Those kids prob are off now. It's an avenue tho.

The first thing I'd do is take a lot of pics of the truck in general like the interior, engine bay and wheels and then send them off to people who buy these trucks for parting purposes and get an idea what the truck is worth to them.

As I said I sold my son's rolled 1991 FJ80 to cruiserparts.net for more than a grand. And that was based on the pics I sent him.

With this and a good estimate for the patch/repair you are better equipped to make the best decision.

It's easy to get emotionally attached to a vehicle but you need to fight that urge as it leads to emotional decisions which are rarely financially smart ones.

If you do decide to go on the hunt for another truck, I travel all over the north east for work and could inspect a prospect as far away as Buffalo or Philadelphia depending on my schedule.

Hey Rick sound like something John Corcoran would say.

As for the 60 post some pictures of the rust so we know what it looks like some see surface rust as bad. Some think the frame is perfect if there are no holes.

Yup I totally appreciate your offer Rick... I'll take pix tmrw but be forewarned, it's bad. Lol. Really nasty flaky metal. Hard to think there's much to weld too after its cleaned up but who knows.

I'll check that link now. Thanks guys... I am attached but I do know spending a bunch wouldnt be very smart. I think things thru and bat options around for awhile before I make decisions. Like I said... I just want to feel okay knowing that if it decides to let loose, it won't kill me or someone near me. And apparently what I've heard now a few times, is if the spring hanger or a shackle let's loose it will continue to drive. I guess there's a local guy driving around w/ his Chevy this way.

Sorry to go off topic but who is this John Corcoran I have his name on some of my paper work for my 45?

Ha ha, you and half of the Toyota owners in New England!

John is a good guy and active on here. He's known as the flipper because he flips cars all the time. I bought my 45 from him. He was a wine importer who started bringing in some Land Cruisers from Australia.

Not bad and a lot of parts could be swapped from your 60

Really? 60 parts to a 40? Huh. I was unaware of that.
And that other 60 the one for $600. I can't find it now on CL... Might be gone. There are alot out there at vastly different prices. It's amazing.
