I am looking for opinions on a braking question.

At 75k miles I have developed a pulsating wobble in moderate braking in the 40 down to 20 mph range. It isn’t noticeable above 45 or so, or under 20 mph. It isn’t apparent on hard braking. I also had a godawful screech when doing some obstacles at slow speed during a training course two weekends ago.

Whether it is pad material deposited on the rotor, rubbing a wear indicator, a chunk of metal in the pad, or a sticking slider, or something else, my plan is to replace the pads, rotors and related hardware.

I bought this LC used at 65k miles with good service records but no indication of brake work ever having been done. So a full refresh will make me feel confident in the braking system.

I ran the Tundra TRD pads on my last 200 and liked them a lot, so I wanted to do the same here.

So, I ordered stock Toyota rotors and TRD pads (the Tundra pads) from one of my favorite online parts suppliers. Unfortunately the rear TRD pads (PTR09-0C110) are on national backorder with no ETA.

I need to install and bed whatever I install before a training event next weekend (25-26), so I can’t wait around for a no ETA backorder.

Given that, I asked the person folks to swap both sets of pads out with the stock LC pads. Unfortunately they only swapped out my rear TRD pads for stock pads (not both axles). If I install them, I’d have TRD pads in front and stock pads in the rear.

I’m trying to figure out if (1) this is a reasonable way to go, or if I should (2) get stock Toyota front pads so I have a matching set, or (3)some other brake pad in a matching set?

If some other pad, what is are people doing other than the TRD pad? EBC green stuff? Stoptech? Any part numbers or suppliers you could share?

And yes, I get that this is probably no big deal, people run around with mixed brakes all the time, my existing brakes would probably be fine, etc. However, I want to have my braking system on top shape, and I like to do things right.

Also, @Bunga posted in another thread (Builds - Got a 200 - Here it goes - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/got-a-200-here-it-goes.1112630/post-13558622) that the TRD pads are made by Stoptech.

These Stoptech pads were mentioned in the same thread:
StopTech 309.13040 Street Performance Rear Brake Pad
Stoptech 309.13030 Front High Performance Pads

Are the TRD and Stoptech Street Performance pads both the exact same compound?
Yes. TRD pad = stoptech street performance pad.

If you thinking to run EBC,

Here is the part no. for stage 3. This is include brake pads (green stuff) and rotors.

2013 Toyota Land Cruiser
Front S3KF1192
Rear S3KR1108

I would not mix brake pad on the same axle. But if you just mixing front vs rear, it's fine. You need matching brake pad material so the brake rotor wear evenly.

Based on that, is it fair to think that if I used Stoptech street performance rear pads with the Toyota TRD front pads, they’d be properly matched?
Yes, the brake pad material will be the same. They even have matching sku no. inprint on the brake pad. I did a comparison on Genuine TRD pad vs Stoptech Street performance pad.

Yes, just to clarify, it would be different pads on the front (TRD pads) versus the rear (stock Toyota pads). I would never mix them on the same axle (unless it was an absolute emergency-get-me-to-safety situation).

I picked up some Stoptech sport pads and got the fronts delivered today.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they came with a set of hardware (sliders and spring wires).

I also got the front TRD pads (and the stock rear pads), so thought I’d post some comparisons.

The obvious difference is that the TRD are painted red versus the Stoptech being black.

If I am not mistaken, the TRD pads have part number CEN 809 13030 imprinted on them whereas the Stoptech have what looks like 309 13030. I don’t know if that first digit is a meaningful number.

I am only guessing, but the CEN may be Centric (the hardware kit is Centric branded).

There are a bunch of other numbers printed on them that are close, but not exactly the same.

The TRD pads say 89AA1432 GF 42 B13
The Stoptech are 39AA1432 GF 44 B20. I have no idea whether they are SKUs or inventory control numbers or what.

I’ve got everything I need for a full swap of OEM rotors, Stoptech Sport pads and new hardware.

I didn’t have time to do a full job before leaving for a trip, but I had time to swap the front pads. The previous owner had some crappy semi metallic Wagners on there, no wonder they screeched. I tossed on a set of TRD pads with new hardware and it fixed the majority of the issue. Odds are the remaining rear pads (no doubt also crappy wagners) are the remaining annoyance.

When I have time and a helper, I’ll swap everything out for the new rotors/pads/hardware and keep the slightly used TRD fronts for a spare set. (I need a helper to press the brake pedal so I can remove and reinstall/torque the spidertrax spacers.) my helper is on the DL with a broken clavicle…

For anyone else that likes the TRD pads, but can't find them since they're on national backorder, customer support at Centric just responded to an inquiry I made in a way that may be helpful to us.

They said the StopTech Sport pads are the TRD pads: "Those TRD pads ARE the StopTech pads, simply with a different part number for branding/ licensing purposes. Our part number for them is 309.13030."

Fronts are StopTech Sport 309.13030
Rears are StopTech Sport 309.13040

The 309 is the compound, the second grouping is the position (front/rear).

They also told me that the mid range StopTech Street (308 series compound) is discontinued.
