Hey All,

After much reading on the forum to and figure out what was wrong on the 99 LC I ended up calling JT's for some advice on diagnosing some drive train issues. Corie was great on the phone, answered questions and had good advice - seems to be a stand up guy. After all was said and done I ordered a set of CV axles and a couple seals for the front diff.

Gave the credit card and ended receiving them a few days earlier than expected. However, the way they were packaged the two CV's were hitting one another in transit and the outside dust shields on both ended up getting bent up. See pics for what I'm talking about.

Took these pictures and sent them to JT's. Their reply was take some needle-nose pliers and bend them back. My reply was that's BS - I ordered new parts and shouldn't have to fix them in order to install. Couple more emails and a week and a half later still getting the same answer. So today I tried to straighten them out with predictable results. Looks like crap and since I can't get the shields off to use a hammer to
IMAG1109.webp
IMAG1110.webp
tap and straighten them their still all bunged up and anything but the smooth surface it is supposed to be.

So all this said, questions are:

1. Is this going to matter at all anyway - meaning how crucial are these shields to keeping it all clean and rolling well.

2. Am I right to expect them to ship new ones? I know from my businesses that I would be sending new parts - regardless of the fact it would cost more than the profit on the sale in the first place.

I am well aware I'm just a new customer to them and the $350 isn't that much of an order, but this just doesn't feel right.

Thanks all and happy cruisin!

Order them from Onur aka beno next time...he understands packaging.

1. It's not a matter of how "crucial"...it's that the person packaging them doesn't know how to package. A cheap cardboard tube over each would have prevented the bending.

2. I don't see why a good company would not replace them...no questions asked. I'd expect to lose money if I did the packaging.

It's not whether you're a new customer, and it's not about $350 being a large or small amount.

I'd repackage the axles as best I could, call JT for a call-tag, and ask them if they know about credit card charge backs. :flipoff2::flipoff2:

I'd also tell the story to my credit card company...from personal experience if it's American Express you'd be taken care of, and damn quickly.

Good luck.

Steve

I think you need to call back to JT's and ask for the boss. My dealings with them in the past have been good.

Jt you guys better make this right. Telling the guy to bend it back is bs if he is telling the truth.

I'm a prospective customer and you just lost my potential business forever if you don't make this right asap.

I've spent a small amount of cabbage with JT (read: front TJM air locker, ARB dual air compressor, entire 2.5" suspension lift kit with UCA's, etc.) and I have always been very impressed with them. They really put in some time on the phone with the shop that installed my front locker to help them out with the install.
I would ask for Carl Montoya, I believe he IS the boss (owner?). Here is his email: carl@justdifferentials.com
I'll stand by these guys, but if what you say is true, I believe they should make it right and I believe they WILL make it right, again assuming your side of the story is the same as theirs.

FWIW Toyota puts the CVs (and radiators...ask me how I know) in a box destined for the dealers with barely any packaging to protect vitals during shipment; seems stupid to me but that's the way they do it. From there it's up to your parts guy to repackage effected parts so they arrive to us after the typical UPS/FedEx mistreatment in route. Radiators, CVs and driveshafts seem to be the most troublesome.

FWIW: I've, prior to meeting Onur year's ago, received OEM CVs with bent flanges just like the OP photo; Onur/beno gets all my business since ;).

Thanks r2m - I'll email Carl and hopefully get a better answer. Been very frustrating to this point. Received the CV's on the 6th in a really heavy duty box that looked in great shape - not what I usually expect from the UPS guerrilla team. Opened them up and found exactly what the pictures I posted showed - emailed to JT's within 20 minutes - now 12 days later and three separate times either email or phone been told the same thing. Given all the nice things said about JT on this and other forums and how nice they were on the pre-order it has really surprised me. Will give them another day or two to make it right before I let the credit card company know about the situation and just reverse the charges.

Carl is one of the best and most professional guys in our industry.

While I think those shields could be bent back and be fully functional, if you're not happy, it needs to be addressed.

Anyone who has attended 100s in the Hills knows how much Carl appreciates his customers and our vehicles. He doesn't just sell parts for the 100, he owns and drives one too.

Call Carl and explain your concerns.

Thanks for expressing your concern, and sorry you are not happy with the dented tin dustshield. While we make every effort to package parts the best we can, sometimes things happen. I agree with paflyter that they could likely be straightened, and I do also agree that you shouldn't have to do so if you are not comfortable with it. We'll certainly get you a calltag to get these back so that you are not out of pocket. You can reach us easily by phone or email and we are happy to fix this issue. Thanks for your business, and sorry there were some issues on this one.

Hey All,

Thanks for the input from everyone - and many thanks to Carl for taking care of it. Wasn't twenty minutes after I emailed he had call tags and solutions coming. Great to see good vendors and good people in the world. Look forward to the new parts and getting this beast back on the road!

Hey All,

I hate when I read posts that may have a bit of a negative spin that ended up being due to unfortunate circumstances and when corrected the original poster does not go back and make sure everyone knows that it was taken care of.

So in addition to replying on the original thread, thought I'd take a minute to let everyone know the guys at JT's (and Carl in particular) have done a stand up job and their good reputation here on the board is well deserved!

Look forward to future endeavors with them and hope everyone manages to keep the rubber side down!

Thanks,
Scott

:beer::beer::beer: Great response from JT.

As expected. There are a few companies where I know my money is well spent..... JT's and NITRO are both on that list.

Without a doubt @justdifferentials supports the Land Cruiser folks very well. Glad you got this straightened out.
